Airborne Digital Video Cameras

I'm building a model that has been designed specifically for carrying a video camera. The concept is slightly different to others I have seen in that is a twin boom layout with the camera in a 'pod' - pointing backwards. My thinking is that this configuration will be easier to get air-to-air shots of other models as they will be able to formate behind the camera plane. I'm guessing that the 'subjects' pilot will have a greater chance to get into the right position, rather than expect the camera plane cavorting all over the place trying to tail chase!

I have just bought a small'ish digital video camera for the job. BUT ... knowing that digital mobile phones can cause problems (I have seen this first hand up at the club .. and I'm sorry to say it was my telephone. Thank god it was observed on the ground before any damage could be done). I'm wondering now if digital video cameras might have the same effect.

I would really appreciate if anyone with experience of airborne digital video cameras could let me know if they have had any problems or unexplained 'glitches' happen.

Thanks in advance.

I stuck a small cheapy digital camera in one of my planes before. it was right next to the RX in a tight radio box and I didnt notice any problems

cameras dont give off too much EMF unless you use a flash (I would recommend not trying to take any flash pics while up. the capacitor and discarge will produce a big spike in EMF and could cause problems)

just make sure you "soft" mount the camera as vibrations from the engine will tranfer to the camera and blur your shot

good luck and post pics when you are done.

I use a Sony 118? Hi 8 in my video plane with no problem. Have flown it up to 1 mile away with a friend using binoculars to tell me what to do! Great video!
