Newbie ARF ???

Don't know about the Stearman...haven't seen/flown one, but from experience, I don't think a bi-plane would be a good 'first' airplane.

Being that you might be 'alone' in this endeavor, I'd suggest you invest in FMA's "Co-Pilot" and put that on a trainer. RCM Trainer .40, AeroStar .40 (midwest kit or ARF); Tower Trainer .40 or .60 are all good choices as well as Ace's Trainer .40 and Horizon's Extra Easy...and yes, you could use any .40 sized engine on your next plane - but I'd stay away from a bipe for a second plane also!

Just my $.02...

newbie ARF???

Hi David, I am the chef flying instructor at my club here in Australia, and have been for 11 years. There are many good trainer ARF planes to be had, but a Stearman isn't one of them. it's also not a good idea to try to teach yourself ( this can be costly ) let alone dangerous. I know its hard when your keen to get in the air, but I have come across this many times and it usually has the same end. look for help its a lot more fun in a group and a lot safer. As for a starting package it's better to spend a little more and get a middle of the road radio with rates ect so as you advance you won't out grow your radios features. JR in a 6 or 7 channel is hard to beat. for a plane world models make a great 40/47 high wing trainer that is hard to beat, motor OS 46 FX is very good.

I hope I have helped.
