How do you move airplanes?

Three planes: a Stik 60, Cub, and the skeletons of a 4* Sixty that I started in 2005, that was three moves ago! I add a little more to it every time after each move, let's hope I finish it in the new house.

Looks like it will hold up in the move. Did the mover do all the packing of the planes, or did you do that, or was it a mix of you doing the cardboard boxes, and them doing the pine crates? I have been through lots of moves in my life. Only in the last one from HI to OR did the mover come through with their promise to construct crates for the 6 planes that I moved. These were plywood sided, with zillions of popcorn foam around the planes. I helped them place each plane inside bubble wrap first, and saw to it that the foam was all around. Man they were big crates of about 2'x2'x6'. On the prior move from OR to HI about 6 years earlier, the mover promised crates, and the actual workers showed up on moving day with nothing. I helped them make boxes large enough by using their garment boxes overlapped to be long enough. I'm venting, lol. Good luck on your planes making it unscathed! Jon

Jon,

The moving company arranged everything. They filled the bottom with paper, put the planes on top of the papers and then filled around and above them with more paper. The crates (as well as my other belongings) will be in storage for a few months while we look for a house in our new location (NC), but I am sure they'll be fine.

That is similar to a crate I made to ship a 90" biplane on greyhound. It works good.
