I have 10-11 lb Edge 540 73in span (from powerhobbies). The original aluminum wing tube is a metric size as it
is exactly 22.00 mm OD and 650 mm long (some odd imperial numbers).

I am looking for some carbon fiber replacement tube for that plane. The original tube fits perfect - easy to slide in but there is no loose at all (it has fiberglass sleeve). Standard imperial tube 7/8 inch = 22.225mm is 0.225 mm thicker so I'm afraid that it will not fit.

What are my options? I really like to replace this tube as aluminum weights 6.2 oz so I can save a quarter of pound on that.

Please advise.

After a quick look the best I could find was .750" (19.05mm) unless you could get some one to make you one (might be pricey) you are stuck with rolling your own.
You might check out tailbooms.com he might be able to help.

what about trying your local fishing tackle shop to see if the have any rod blanks that might be the right size

I decided to use the [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=2911171]"old trick"[/link]. CST has CF tube 3/4" ID, 0.82" OD (20.83mm). Using masking tape I will make it up to 22mm. It supposed to work. I will see. CST item is T170 (27g per ft).

No, it was Power Hobbies Edge, 120 size. The trick with masking tape works great. I put stripes of masking tape lengthwise (not spiraling). This way the tupe is smooth and the same diameter at every place. Then i painted the tape with dope few times and polished wit 1500 grid sandpaper. It is quite hard and waterproof. It's been few years since i did it and the tube is still like new.

Someting I would try is to use the tube from CST, but make a FG sleeve. Check out post #12 at http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_88...tm.htm#8808493. Biuld up the sleeve so that it slips in to the existing sleeve in the wing. It will be neater, and more durable than wraping the tube in tape. If weight is a big concern you can cut the inner sleeve into a couple of segments and glue one at the root, and one at the inner end of the existing sleeve.

Now 5 years later I have almost the same question: Where do you guys buy CF wing tubes? CST has only two sizes available and looks like they are going to discontinue that. I'm looking for 16-20mm OD tube about 24 in long (for the warbird 63 inch, about 7 lb).

I have learned how to make my own FB sleeve, but I am not confident in making my own wing tubes.

I've purchased 7/8" tubes from Troy Built Models recently. Reasonably priced but shipping was a little high. Don't know if they carry your size but may be worth a look

If you are still looking for 22mm wing tube, this is the same size as Funtana 125 tube. For the other sizes I would look into replacement parts for ARFs on Tower website, for some of them dimensions are posted in the item description.
