airbags ?
I read in a previous thread that a good source for kevlar was in used airbags found at salvage yards. I found me a couple, and whenever I try to use them, they will pull away from the epoxy with very little effort. I have noticed that no matter how hard I try I cannot get the epoxy to soak through the kevlar like I do on fiberglass. So my questions are....
1) are airbags made from more than one kind of material?
2) if they are, how can I distinquish kevlar from the others?
3) if they are not, then what am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any and all info....

I don't know what an airbag is made from, but I believe that the Kevlar that we buy for lay up in composites construction has a special surface treatment to make it wet out with epoxy. As I recall the raw Kevlar fibers don't much like epoxy and they plasma treat the fiber.

airbags
Hi,
Be careful with those bags. I have heard that the chemical used to burn and inflate them leaves a nasty powder behind that is bad for you. Irratates skin, nose, lungs etc. I do not have any personal experience with them, just what I have heard and read. Before I would use them I would do a search here and on the net. A cheap repair patch isn't worth a health risk in my opinion. That's just my 2 cents worth and worth everything you paid for it.
