US/EU FIBERGLASS CLOTH WEIGHT CALCULATOR
Hi,
I am looking for a calculator or ballpark calculation between fiberglass weights measured in US standard weight measurements and that of the EU metric weight measurments. Is there anything such as this around? I have not been able to locate a source.
Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.
Regards
Reuben

RE: US/EU FIBERGLASS CLOTH WEIGHT CALCULATOR
Hi,
I wish to clarify my earlier post. Cloth bought in the USA is bought by yards whilst in the EU its bought by the metres. So the area is larger if bought in the EU. Therefore, I believe that one cannot make a direct conversion of weight as the area is larger/smaller depending of from were it is bought. Hence the request for the calculator to factor these two diferences.
I do not know if I am making a mountain out of a mole hill and would appreciate some feedback.
Thanks again
Reuben

The conversion is quite simple. The cloth weight has nothing to do with it's actual size. It is communicated in grams per square meter or ounces per square yard. In fact, I've never seen a US woven fabric that is actually 36" wide. Fabrics can range from 28" wide to 50"
If the fabric is communicated in grams/square meter and you want to covert to ounces/square yard for comparison you would use the following formula:
x*.0295
If the fabric is in ounces/square yard and you want to convert to grams/square meter you use the folllowing formula:
x*33.91

Or more simpler... open www.google.com and then write something like :
.75 (oz per square yard) in (grams per square meters)
it gives you the correct result

it gives you the correct result
