What type of filler do I use for a small fiberglass crack? Any tips on what sandpaper to use and any other advice would help.

If its a crack large enough that it has a gap that needs filler, then it needs to be repaired first, or the filler is just going to pop back out.


Its Really helpful, especially with composites to see pictures if what guys are talking about. Composites arent like wood, a seemingly simple question needs more information to give educated answers on how to properly repair or perform something.

If it is possible to access the inside of the crack, say on a glass fuselage , then put a layer of glass on the inside surface. The filler then will have a base to adhere to. Just forcing filler into the crack is hoping that the edges of the crack will support the filler. Whatever filler is used must be compatible with the base structure. I refer to the curing issues with epoxy/polyester.

If anybody is interested I can post a sequence of repairing a broken glass fuselage

The picturers shiould tell it all. The most important part is realigne the wings and tail correctly. When the alignment is correct carefully lay cloth over the break on the inside of the fuselage and soak with epoxy. Fill and finish the outside.
