CF control rods questions
I've got a bunch of CF tubes and wanted to know if any of you have experience making control rods with them. They are~3/16" dia. w/a 1/8" ID
If I were to just epoxy some 4-40 rod in there would it hold up? They would be used on 4lb or less models. Either funfly with superlarge control surfaces or combat aircraft at speeds of around 80mph same weight.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks, NAES

RE: CF control rods questions
Naes,
Go to Darrol Cady's website ([link=http://www.darrolcady.com/]www.darrolcady.com[/link]) for how to set up CF push rods or just click [link=http://www.darrolcady.com/Carbon_Fiber/carbon_fiber.htm]Here[/link].
4X40 rod is a perfect fit for the 3/16" tube but may be overkill for a 4 lb funfly. On the other hand, maybe 4X40 would be good for those large funfly control surfaces--your call. Also I've used regular CA and the rubbery CA instead of epoxy for the glue joint.
These are the best push rods I've ever seen.
Good luck!

RE: CF control rods questions
Here my personal guideline for CF rods:
1/8" Rod with 2-56 works well on small planes.
5/32" Rod with either 2-56 or 4-40 ends work well on Med. size planes
where you run a short length of the rod (3"-6")
3/16" and .210 Diameter Rod with 4-40 or 6-32 size ends are used on the
Large Planes, or on Med. Size planes where you need to use the full length
of the rod, or when you will use 12" or more inches of the rod.
All of the rods are used primarily for Ailerons, Elevator, and Rudder
applications, you can cut the rod to the specific length that you will need.
Hope this helps
