Moulding Fibre Glass wheel pants, Need Help
Hi
I have some fibre glass wheel pants that I made as a one off from a block of polystyrene. One of the pants has a large crack in it from a hard landing, so I though I would make a mould of them and lay up some better ones.
Obviously the holes of the fibre glass pants (now going to be the plug) have to be covered over.
My Question is about covering the opening on the bottom for the wheel before making the mould, and how are the two halves of the finished product going to be joined together if their are no openings?
I have read from the net and books that the plug can be solid wood which means I can cover ALL the holes/openings but then how are the halves being joined.
Any info, websites and better yet pictures would be helpful.
Thanks Anthony.

If I were doing the wing pants I would mold it as one piece but with 2 mold halves. I would also re-enforce the area from the inside where the axle would slide through. I believe Mike James has a section on his site about doing wing pants.

Anthony,
There is an article at the link above, which may help you. (Thanks, JR.)
It's easiest to make the plug for each wheel pant in one piece. Then, after you make the molds, cut away the lower part of each mold with a Dremel-type grinder. That gives you the opening you need in the bottom of the wheel pant you need to add tape and/or filler, to join the halves. This is a very easy project, and I'm sure you can do it quickly, if you have the supplies.
Have fun.

Thanks for the Answers, I thought about cutting a opening in the bottom of the mould halves after they are complete but thought I would ask before I start as there may be a different way of going about it. I have never made a mould before but I have done some glass work, shouldn't be too hard.
