Glass tips needed, for a canoe, not a plane...
Not for a plane, but I'm sure someone can steer me straight. Back around 1977, me and Dad built a Red Wood canoe, and covered it in fiberglass, I don't have any idea what we used for resin. About 10 years ago, it was in bad shape, from sitting, and having run over some rocks, it needed repair. I guy that built wicker/glass furniture was in a shop next to mine, so he helped me add an extra layer of glass, I still had the original roll. I still have no clue what resing was used, and we sprayed it on.....Now, it's needing help again, and after hanging around here and seeing people use water based polyurethane, and stuff, I was wondering if something like that would work, or would sunlight yellow it, or what...All i know, is if I use Z-Poxy, I'll need a bunch! What you'all think?

Duane,
I built a cedar strip canoe about ten years ago. I used West System epoxy. It comes in gallons and I think it would go over polyester Ok. That is what I would use.

If you sprayed it on, it was probably polyester resin. If that is the case ,that is also what I would use to repair it. You can sand a small area and if it is polyester you will be able to smell it. Polyester will also be much less exspensive.
