DIY replacement cowl How to? II
OK fellows please don't beat me up too badly, I'm sure this has been covered before...
I have a very old airplane with an equally old ABS cowl that cracks everytime I fly it. I have of course glassed the inside but all that does now is hold all the little pieces together.
I have contacted the regular sources for aftermarket cowls and they too have come up short, as far as having one on the shelf that is. It is a very old kit and long gone company.
I recall seeing articles on forming your own replacement fiberglass cowling, but do not remember where.
Seems to me it would be a nice change of pace project also. A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Suggestion:
Use the old cowling as a plug for a mold.
It may be worth reinforcing it further on the inside to stiffen it up a bit more, before you start.
And the outside surface may need some attention to fill cracks etc. Any holes for cylinder head, exhaust etc. will also need to be filled completely.

Sorry for the delay, been busy...
I appreciate the suggestion, but... pardon my ignorance, I would'nt know how to make the mold in the first place.
Where can I go to find a basic how to? Are there books available? Where did you guys learn how?
Anybody...???
Thanks again
