Fiberglass cowl repair
I recently crashed my Cap 232 with a fiberglass cowl. The cowl has some cracks and some tears in it. I have no experience with fiberglass and would appreciate some suggestions as to how to repair the damaged cowl.

Fiberglass cowl repair
Uglystick,
There are different ways to repair depending on whether you are looking for beauty or strenght.
For strength, clean the inside with solvent to get the oil off the inside surfaces. Cut some fiberglass cloth to about an inch larger than the damaged area. Mix either 5 or 15 minute epoxy. Coat the effected area and lay the fg cloth into the epoxy working it in. Coat the other side of the cloth with epoxy to bury the cloth. Once this hardens you can fill the outside of the cowl where the cracks, chips, or holes are now backed up by the new FG cloth.
You can fill it with either finishing resin or regular epoxy with micro baloons. If you want it to look nice use the finshing resin. Sand it smooth clean it reall good and repaint.
That is how I do it. I am sure that there are other techniques.
