RE: Peel Ply
Peel ply is polyester or nylon cloth treated so it will not bond to epoxy resin.
It is applied after the last layer of fiberglass/carbon/kevlar, to absorb some excess resin. When it is peeled off, it leaves a bondable, textured surface.
It is quite inexpensive, and a great tool. There are some substitutes, like teflon-treated fiberglass cloth, but they are very expensive. Econoply is an economic peel ply that works great for most applications.
You can find it here: http://fiberglasssupply.com/Product_...m_bagging.html
It is bought by the yard. The prices give are price per yard, for a minimum or maximum amount of linear yardage. The more you buy, the least expensive the yard will be. (so don't think the 100yd roll is 2 dollars : when you buy the 100yd roll, the cost is 2 dollars per yard)

RE: Peel Ply
Dhal,
Have you tested the polyester fabric to see if it works as peel ply?
If it does, about how much does it cost per linear yard?
It may be an inexpensive substitute for peel ply.

RE: Peel Ply
Hey KC36330 - You answered my inquiry about the paint in mold and now the Peel Ply!! A veritable fountain of information!! As far as the paint is concerned I just wanted to make some wheel pants that were finished in white so I could paint them with the fuselage paint and get the same color. I had the same situation with my Supercub and although I use the same paint on both, the cowl was a shade different than the fuse. I had used the same primer on both but there was still a slight differnece. After I finish the mold I will pull a sample off one side to see what happens with the paint (Krylon white primer) and use the new Peel Ply as well!!
