A LAY UP QUESTION
 

Hi Guys
I just have a quick question. I'm planning on making a cowl for a scratch build project and I want to do a fiberglass cowl. I know I'll have to make the plug, then the mold and then I can lay up and pull some cowls. My question is this, do you wet out the mold when you are laying up a cowl or just wet out the cloth and then lay the wet cloth into the mold? If you just wet out the mold you would be putting dry cloth into the mold and working it so the resin saturates the colth. Which way is the proper way.

The proper way is which ever way works best for you. I, along with nearly everyone I know, would apply the epoxy to the mold surface, then apply the dry cloth and blot/stipple it into place to saturate the weave. Then blot with paper towels to remove excess epoxy (weight).

The same as David. Wet fibreglass cloth is just miserable to handle. It always seems to twist the way you do not want it to.
