I'll bet it'll only run in a wet two cycle.[]

None of the current crop of Fox engines are particularly stunt friendly strqaight from the box excluding the 35 which really doesn't count.
But they can be made into good runners but only with a rework. Lou Woolard is the acknowledged master of the are of reworking these to make them into long lastiing well mannered engines suitable to our needs.

The Fox 40 stunt is a great running stunt engine. I have been
flying one fore several months now . This engine comes
from the factory with Lew Woolards mods all ready done.
This engine has a steel piston and liner . Upon examining
the engine you can see that the ports and head have been
modified. This engine has been set up to run a 4-2-4
type stunt run.
My engine was on the tight side and needed a fair amount
of break in .
I'm running mine on the recommended fuel of 71/2 percent nitro
and 10% castor an 10% synth. on a zinger 11X5 prop.
My only complaint was the new needle valve assembly that
came with the engine. I changed it out to a Supertigre type and
had no problem after that.
I have flown the engine on a Brodak Cardinal and a Pathfinder and
engine has more than enough power to fly this size plane.
If you do purchase one make sure it is the Fox 40 stunt
model and not one of the other 40's listed.

Jim,
Awhile back they had said that they were going to produce that engine and even had a picture of it. Price was listed at a healthy $225.00 for it which immediately removed it from any consideration on my part.
If it has the modifications then it will indeed be a good runner, however, that price is a killer when there are some very good engines available. For example the Aero Tigre 36 is probably head and shoulders above most of the currently available engines and carries a $239.00 price tag.It has however demonstrated it's winning ways too conclusively to dispute it's monitary worth
I don't know if Fox is still charging that price for the engine but I'd have to have a very good incentive to buy it in the face of other offerings, notwithstanding that Lou Woolard is the master at reworking the Fox engine and making a well behaved stunt engine out of them.

I misread the ad.  I thought it sad .40 St., but was actually .40 Std.  With the new venturi and needle and maybe head it looked like a different.  However I believe they have a .40 stunt and .60 stunt.  The .60 is almost $300 and has ceramic sleeve.  I suspect the .40 also has a ceramic sleeve.  I have heard that they will also modify some engines for stunt.  Or is it someone else modifying the Fox engines?

Fox .60 stunt.  If you click for larger image you get a detailed photo..

I did not see a .40 stunt.  But they do sell engines that are not shown on their website.

Dennis,
The list price is $225.00. I was able to get one for $150 which helped
a bit. I agree with you that there are many good stunt engines
out there to choose from.

The current offering of Stunt engines from Fox are the .35 Stunt and .60 Stunt. None of the others claim to be stunt motors and I wouldn't expect them to be. All of the Fox .40's that I've seen run with a nice 4/2 break had been modified by Lew. If Fox ever sold a Stunt .40, they don't appear to offer one now, unless of course, you can get some special deal not advertised on their web site. Current online prices are excellent for the .40's so get one and send it to Lew for rework. With the new motor price well under the century mark, it should still be reasonable investment.

JimZ,
Which of the 40's do you have - the deluxe, the STD, or the Sport? I'm hoping the did Lew's mods to all of these engines - that would be fantastic if they did.

The one That is the  stunt 40 has a plain bushing for the crank shaft and has
the iron piston and steel cylinder.
The engine does come with the new style needle valve assembly.
If you contact Fox ask Sharon for the Fox 40 stunt ,
I also just ordered a  Fox 40 stunt piston and sleeve which
which has the mods but also included the new head button
with the mods all for $70 bucks.
