The Fox 40 stunt is a great running stunt engine. I have been
flying one fore several months now . This engine comes
from the factory with Lew Woolards mods all ready done.
This engine has a steel piston and liner . Upon examining
the engine you can see that the ports and head have been
modified. This engine has been set up to run a 4-2-4
type stunt run.
My engine was on the tight side and needed a fair amount
of break in .
I'm running mine on the recommended fuel of 71/2 percent nitro
and 10% castor an 10% synth. on a zinger 11X5 prop.
My only complaint was the new needle valve assembly that
came with the engine. I changed it out to a Supertigre type and
had no problem after that.
I have flown the engine on a Brodak Cardinal and a Pathfinder and
engine has more than enough power to fly this size plane.
If you do purchase one make sure it is the Fox 40 stunt
model and not one of the other 40's listed.
Awhile back they had said that they were going to produce that engine and even had a picture of it. Price was listed at a healthy $225.00 for it which immediately removed it from any consideration on my part.
If it has the modifications then it will indeed be a good runner, however, that price is a killer when there are some very good engines available. For example the Aero Tigre 36 is probably head and shoulders above most of the currently available engines and carries a $239.00 price tag.It has however demonstrated it's winning ways too conclusively to dispute it's monitary worth
I don't know if Fox is still charging that price for the engine but I'd have to have a very good incentive to buy it in the face of other offerings, notwithstanding that Lou Woolard is the master at reworking the Fox engine and making a well behaved stunt engine out of them.
