Back in the game!

I did the math the other day, and figure it's been 38 years since my last control line flight. This weekend I got in 4 flights with my SkyRay 35, powered buy a PAW .29 diesel. This is fun! I didn't do any loops or anything, just getting used to the plane and the whole walking in circles thing. The diesel ran great, and I was getting nearly 5 minutes on a 2 1/2 oz. tank. Next session I'll go for more elevator travel and try some stunts! Woo hoo!

I am 48 and got back into CL a couple of years ago. I have one question to ask. Did you have as big a grin as I did after the flight? It is a blast and flying RC has taken a bit of a back seat for a while!!! Enjoy every minute!!!

Hey guys, I know the feeling you are talking about. Just flew my first stunt contest after 35 years of NOT flying any C/L. I've got abut 20 flights under my belt and I'm starting to remember how to do this. Having a blast with my electric Magician. Can't get enough of it. May not even go back to RC this season at all. :)

Oh yeah, I was grinning big time! I was a bit dizzy after the first flight, less after the second one, then I was fine.

I'm trying to learn R/C at the same time I'm re-learning C/L!

Oh yeah, I was so dizzy the first flight I almost fell down, and it lasted about 30 seconds. I looked like I was very drunk. I couldn't walk straight. I was amazed cause in all my years of C/L flying I never experienced any dizzyness. Of course I was a LOT younger then. Anyway, like you by the 4th flight I was over the dizzyness issue. Now I been practicing the beginner stunt pattern, and I'm startin to get it. Even flew in the Brodak contest last week. I'm having a ball for sure.:D

RE: Back in the game!

I did a couple of flights off of a paved area this weekend, and all was going well until I tried to do a loop. It certainly wasn't round, the plane went straight up, then just flipped over, then recovered, but I needed another 6" of altitude. It sprung the landing gear, shortened the prop by about an inch on each blade, tore off the tail skid, and cracked the elevator. I'm thinking I was on the wrong side of the circle relative to the wind. Oh well, it'll fix up easily enough!

Yeah, the wind is important. Most manuevers should be done on the down wind side of the circle. Easy does it. ;)
