A Cloud Ate My Plane:(
Well it went up and I lost it! There were over 10 of us and none of us saw it come down! I had my name it and it happened around 7:30 last night and I haven't heard anything yet, it must have landed in the corn or bean fields some were around here.
Is there anything I should do or someone I should contact? Does the AMA need to be contacted?

lost plane
I do not know about contacting the AMA, but if it is feasible, I would hire a private pilot to fly over the area. In corn and beans it is so hard to find your lost plane. ( speaking from experience). Good Luck

P40 I live in town south of the river. But we are going to be moving west close to Napoleon soon.
I am going to hit my father-in-law tonight to see if he will take me up. I swear that we did not see it come down. I cant imagine it is within a mile or so of were I was flying.

Well if it was north of river I know a few people over there how could keep and eye out. The plane can go for quit a few miles on full tank of fuel. I lost one couple of years ago it was in sight it was 1 miles back in a Field.

I spent that flight going vertical just so I could dead stick it. It was a new model it had about 1 1/2 gallons of fuel though it. This was the first time I had taken it that high. I normally get about 15 minutes on a flight so by the time I got up to the clouds I couldn't have had more than a minute or two of fuel left. It was a Hanger 9 Super Stick 60 with a Saito 100 on it. I was basically straight up when I lost sight of it. I was in Napoleon, Ohio at my field The Thistledown Flyers.

Couple question's
1 How big was the fuel tank
2 How much time elapsed from take off till it disappeared
3 what direction was it flying when last seen east west north south
maybe something on a compass like 60 degress or 110 degress
might make tracking eaiser
4 how much time was spent at full throttle, half throttle
helps in figuring fuel use and powered flight time left
5 what type or kind of plane was it .. helps figure sink rate after the engine quits
6 up in the clouds is pretty general were the clouds at 250 ft or 2500 ft. or some where in between
7 What is the wing span of the plane. and how big did the plane look to the naked eye . was it half size 1/4 size, the size of a pack of smokes,
egor
ya I know lots of questions not trying to be a smart a** but if there's 3 or more that you can't answer the plane is toast go buy a new one..

My son who is only 5 says that he is going to get a space ship and go up into space and find it for me. It WAS PRETTY HIGH! After egor said something I thought a pencil at about arms length and looking directly at the end would be close to the size of the plane when it disappeared. It might have been smaller!

You may want to contact the local farmers around there to keep an eye out when crops come off. I'm sure running a engine throught the combine wouldn't make them very happy and you would like your plane back. Just a thought.

I did this once, but when I realized that the clowds were lower than I thought, I just chopped throttle, and put it into a spin till I saw it again... scary when you lose it! Hope you find it quickly

most planes you cut back the throttle, hit full pu and rudder and wait for it to come out in a slow spin.
at our display a 200 mph Magnum did the same thing, came down well away from where it went in, scary moment for the pilot till he got it back, the other guy was doing all his U turns IN the clouds, hows that for knowing what your plane WILL do
