This is what happens when your RC crystal comes out
My Poor Sig Extra 300xs... 
Well all was going well today, went up to the field and had a guy who flies nothing but 1/4 and 1/3 scale planes check everything out, all was good, did a range check. Started the plane, he took off was trimming it out, then a min later it snap rolled into the ground, came to find out the receiver crystal came out, DAMN JR Radios
I'll be taping all my crystals in from now on. Here are some pics of the what's left of it. I'll be buying a new one this week. The wing is ok, just a small ding I can fix and have a backup. 
Some good news I guess...lol

Crystal came out?
How do you know that the crystal came out in flight? It seems more likely that it came out in the crash - I have never had this happen to me or anyone else I have heard of. You should probably consider other possibilities. Who knows; I guess there is a first time for everything.

That was subject of a long discussion after the crash and every agreed that it was the only thing that could of happened, as it was the only piece missing. Some of the guys at the field had heard of this happening before just never seen it in person. I had a very experienced person flying the plane and it was up for maybe three minutes before it crashed. There was no aerobatics performed, just ¼ throttle left and right turns over the field to trim it out, on the last turn the plane went nose down snap rolling. We spent about 15 min at the crash site looking at what happened and picking up all the pieces and did not leave anything behind that I’m aware of. Got back to the clubhouse and just started looking over everything, all the control surfaces where in place, the wing was not damaged but the small section of the leading edge, the wing was still bolted to the fuse. I took the wing off and inspected the batter and rx which was still in place being held by rubber bands, and then noticed after pulling the foam back a little that the crystal was gone. As we where walking back to the clubhouse the radio and rx where still on and all the control surfaces where going crazy as if you did not have the radio on, so I’m thinking that’s the only thing that could of happened. Oh well, it’s just a conversation piece now. Have not decided what to do, either going to get another Extra or get a DP Edge 540, the Edge should fly fine with my OS 1.60 as I’m not a 3D flyer.

Sorry to hear about your plane. The giant scale guys have been taping crystals in since before forever. It does happen. Mine are taped_bob

If you are talking about the older model sig extra 300xs that did not have the firewall brace in place then yes, but the new models have the firewall braced.
