full scale b52 crash
any ideas as to what happened??? Looks like the pilots were rolling in right aileron to stop the bank and had partial (if not full) flaps hung. I noticed that the elevator was down, and no attempt was made to correct. Also looks like the right rudder pedal was being stomped on with no affect. Also looks like the eject hatches are still in place on top of the fuse. Impact was pretty fierce. Look how far the outer wing panel and various other panels fly away from the impact site.

happened at fairchild afb. during an airshow, pilot had "airshow syndrome" he was hot-dogging and overbanked and was too low to recover and burned it in.

Guys, I'm not trying to be insensitive here but this happened *several* YEARS ago (I don't remember the exact date, but I do remember reading about it in the local paper). Why drag it up all of the sudden?
And, uh, what does it have to do with R/C?

moving parts.. not off hand... but there is 35 miles of wire, over 500,000 bits and pieces, and that airframe is going to fly untill 2050. went into production in 1952 hence the number B-(bomber) 52. wheels align with the runway when in a sideslip up to 30 degrees so the plane can actually touch down sideways. they used to have water injection, to boost power on takeoff, but they have been long moded with better engines. top speed about 580kts. altitude of about 40,000 ft. anything else????? didnt see the link till just now.. interesting.....

gotta chime in here, graupner is right, the pilot was "hot-dogging"
I saw the video, also saw the program on discovery about it as well. yes it is sad the pilots where killed, but the Pilot should have not done the manuever he did, otherwise they all may still be with us. pretty harsh on your flaming of him as well?

Full size crash
I too saw this story on an documentary on T.V. Pilot was known as an hot dog show off. On the T.V. version you can actually see the co-pilot eject while the BUFF is in the 90* banked turn, as he ejects i think he hits the tail, then lands in the middle of the fire ball. Plane was also carrying nuclear warheads. Just goes to show if somebody is acting irresponsible at the R/C field then take them aside and have a little heart to heart with them for the safety of the R/C field. There's a time and place for everything.
