Default Spitfire shot down

Last Monday, a Spitfire which was doing his maiden flight was shot down by the Lutwaffe 3 minutes after taking off. Some people saw the plane suddenly spined, the nose pointing to the ground. Nobody knows what really happened.
We send a rescue team to try to localize the plane and its pilot but they were not able to find it in the corn field. So we sent another plane to take some shots from above and finally we were able to identify the plane wreckage.
But the pilot disappeared. May be he bailed before it crashed...

The plane probably tip-stalled during his last turn. This plane was really heavy: I had to put a lot of lead shot to balance it properly (at least 20oz). All the control links were OK.

P-Y,

Do you have what was the overall weight of the plane when finished?

What engine did you have in it?

I am building one myself and I would like to know what is a bad weight to have.

No, I don't know what was the overall weight of the plane. I used an OS61FX 2 stroke. I should have used an heavier one like a 4 stroke .91.
Everybody says on the forums that this plane is tail heavy and that you have to keep the tail as light as possible. It was my first build and first plane (but I then bought and flew 6 other planes before flying this one) so I didn't pay much attention to the comments because I didn't have any experience. I could/should have put the airtank in the wing and do some other things to keep it lighter.
I spent few hundred of hours to build it, sand it, fiberglass it and paint it and it just lasted 3 minutes (may be even less) [&:]
Now I'm ready for the next kits.

Not sure what exactly you think an air tank in the wing would do for overall weight but it would accomplish nothing other than adding weight whereever the tank is located. If you have to add lead to the nose try to add by going heavier with the motor. The spit with those wings is a tip stalling son of a gun, so next time keep your speed up. You should rebuild it or go arf. good luck

Actually it was worse than it looked on the photos. I took off the engine, servos and the retract system and trashed the plane. I have a Marutaka C-47 to build and didn't want to spend hours and hours trying to fix the Spitfire.
