Default Mid-Air Carnage!

I was doing a fast low flyby in pattern at my new club last Saturday after calling it out, then when I started my climbing turn- a other person lost altitude and fell in my flight path with his plane. This was the result. Instant whack with early 4th of July confetti! The other crashed on the runway and I sliced right through him and my plane became a lawn dart, traveling very far from the runway!

The only damage to my plane besides the Avistar being destroyed was a striped gear in a servo, a bent remote needle valve arm.

The other plane the carb was completely broken off his engine, and a sevo wire was chopped from my prop.

The club emailed me and decided to only charge me half price for the club dues this year because they felt bad. It was no-ones fault and all is good. I told the other guy that our wives will really believe us that we went flying that day, and didn't go to the VFW. Also I told him that if he blamed me for the acciden't that his wife should have no problem allowing him to buy a new airplane.

O.K. Thinking ahead!!! This COULD be a great opportunity !! You guys show your wife (your)plane). They'll feel sorry for you &tell ya to go ahead & buy a new one. Now follow my train of thought !!! Wait a couple of weeks & show your wives your buddy's planet& explain you feel responsible for his loss !! She'll demand that ya get him a new one then !! Caution, this could POSSIBLY backfire if NOT done correctly !!! Good Luck !!!

It would have been interesting to lay the pieces out like the way they do in a crash investigation just to see how the planes specifically collided... just for fun, of course.

In my one and only midair (his Kaos against my LT-40) I did that when I couldn't 'find' my left wing. After laying out the pieces, the left wing was there all right, just in a zillion pieces. We were able to determine that the other guy came into my plane from the left (he was in a turn at the time) and his prop chewed right through my left wing and hit just behind the TE. Most of the nose section and the mid fuse was intact so I got a lot of the pieces back, except for the servo in that left wing.

Of course, it was no ones fault but it was fun to determine how it happened because it was all over in the blink of an eye.

Sorry about the carnage, but make the best of it....

Yes it did happen very quickly. As I can recall we both stood there trying to comprehend what happened for a few seconds. My friend said he didn't hear or see it until things started falling from the sky, I saw it and heard everything. This was his second mid-air, and my first. We both shook hands and thought that it was wild, almost worth the cost of the planes IMO.

Mid-airs happen, and it makes no sense to blame, we are all there to have fun and once in a while accidents do happen. Besides all that, I don't know one person who doesn't like carnage from time to time?

Pardon my sense of humor- some look for porn on the internet, I look for RC airplane crash videos. And you know what? My wife doesn't mind.
