You might want to see if you can buy replacement parts. at least the wing. If not you should seriously consider a carbon fiber wing spar . It will keep the wing together. Glue alone probably wont hold that. The rest can just be glued or epoxied back together. Start with the big obvious parts. Just make sure to test what ever adhesives you use on a part thats not visible. Some ca"s will eat through. Get the foam safe kind. Hot glue works too as long as it is not part of the structure, like gluing the wing back on. You can also put toothpicks between two parts before gluing them together. This makes it way stronger. Hope this helps. If you have more questions id be happy to help. BTW, id fly that thing for at LEAST 4 more crashes, till the motor isnt strong enough to lift the glue ball hangin from it. steve.

Hi EdgardoJr,

Here's some before and after pics of my “handy work”.

I haven't tried flying it after I repaired it (I'm a little gun shy) so I can't say it's flyable but it does feel solid and, hopefully, is not too heavy now.

Fortunately, my wings were pretty much intact but I had read that polyurethane (Gorilla Glue) and toothpicks or, better yet, bamboo barbeque skewers can give quite a strong joint. I've used that combination on my fuselage. The only new purchased part is the motor.

The new landing gear is homemade...brazed welding rod.

Good Luck on your repairs.

Bill.

Steve and Bill, thanks for the tips guys! I've take note of them and will be working lastly on the wing.

I purchased a new motor mount and cowling. The cowling was repairable but I kept that for the future.

The stock motor mount had a broken bottom screw hole, a broken piece from the motor mount has literally stayed screwed-on.

Glued, lightly sanded and canopy masked and ready for priming.

Some development... completed painting the fuselage yellow.

Repainted the horizontal stabilizer sky blue.

Here is one of my challenges, the wing support. Have you guys replaced this with anything better?

EgardoJr...

Nice looking repair job.

I lost the wing struts on my J3 in a relatively minor crash on my first or second flight. I had read that they provide very little structural support for the wing, the major support comes from the wing spar, so I didn't try to repair or replace them.

At this point in my flight training I'm more concerned with getting back on the ground without damage than “scale” issues. As you can see from my previous pic's, I still have work to do!

The absence of the wing struts wasn't the cause of the my last crash.

Bill.

HI Bill,

Thanks for the heads-up on the wing support. I though too that it didn't help at all because its was so small and flexible..

My strut has breaks on the middle section on both sides. I have thought of replacing them with carbon rods soon.

I have also noticed that the wing has very little dihedral angle?? Have a look at this:

Here is my 8X6 wooden prop, looks so scale
