Sukhoi crashes in living room......
Having just completed final preparations on my Sig Sukhoi for it's maiden flight the next day, I decided to move it into the living room while cleaning up the shop. I prepped my whole walking path from the shop through the front door to the middle of the living room, moving any obstacle out of the way.
I next picked up the Sukhoi and carefully negotiated the path and through the door only to trip on the edge of the couch and smash the aft part of the fuselage between my Budda belly and the couch arm.
It happened so quickly I couldn't comprehend what had happened, then I burst into bizzare laughter!!! Three months of loving preparation destroyed in 3 seconds. I took photos, then went to bed.
Called Sig the next morning to inquire about parts. Between their, and my, howls of laughter, we concluded a fuse kit with tail feathers would do the job. Had it sent to the LHS. To Sig's credit they sent it FedEx second day with an invoice for half the quoted price and the LHS made a little profit too. They had written on the invoice, "best laugh we have had so we want to help out".
Best thing about it is I fell so quickly there was no time to react so there was no attempt to "save" the plane. After relating the incident to many of my customers, I received a lot of good, fun pokes. But some related personal or friend's stories of serious injuries trying to keep the bird from damage.
Airplane was reassembled and has many perfect flights on it.

Jeesh-
I might've gone to bed, but would've stood up all night.
Talk about hangar rash!
Glad you got it back together and can laugh about it.

Hey Dick T,
What size Suk was/is that? I'm looking for my next plane (hopefully a gasser) and your Suk looks about the size I'd like. I've heard 80" or greater for a gasser.
Thanks,
Mike

The Sukhoi is the Sig ARF. It's WS is 76" or 78".
The Sukhoi lives on with another flyer right now, sold it so I could get on with another project (H9 1/3 Extra 330L).
I have received numerous email notes from folks with their own story to tell, some quite funny, others sad.
Hang in this hobby long enough and we all will have a humbling experience.
