I put ski's on a 40 size trainer type plane and flew from a frozen lake yesterday, had big fun until that last touch and go when motor died and I didn't quite get turned around before going down into the treetops. The plane has been up there all night, I couldn't get a line to it with my fish-pole and a pocket full of bolts so I gave up. I pass by on my way home from work and it's still up there and probly will be for a long time. I was wondering if by chance I do retrieve it in the spring will the reciever be shot from being plugged into the battery (the balck wire syndrome they call it) ?
Normally I wouldn't have given up so easily but this polar vortex is kicking my butt 6 degrees outside today, yesterday it was 30 and sunny.

Most of us have been there ! As long as the wing is on and it's in one piece sitting rather level I think it will be OK. I'd be more concerned with it getting wet rather than corrosion creeping up the power wire,
I've had the best ;luck using a wrist-rocket (slingshot) some fish line and lead weight. Get the right shot then tie on some heavier line, pull it up and around and shake !
If all else fails you can always call Mr. McCulloch !

see if there is a tree climber or tree cutter in your area ,we have one that cost 50 dollars he has a lot of work in the spring time for new and out of shape ploits,heres are last one of the year this was amid air onelanded in the tree

Took this pic out my car window if you look close you'll see the yellow plane up in the trees. Going to buy a slingshot from the toy store and try again when it warms up out of the single digit temps.
The first pic is the detached landing gear with ski's attached visible in the pic but you really have to study it.

The skis may give you the most trouble getting caught up in the branches. They always look in good shape in the tree....trick is to get them on the ground in the same shape. Been lucky enough to do it several times. Good luck !

I just want the hardware mostly and don't care much about the airframe. There's so many small branches making it tough to throw a line, the woods are a restricted area owned by the city no trespassing but one would think an officer may cut a guy break in this case.

Sometimes I could get the right shot after only a few tries and other times it would take hours . I've also had luck using a rope saw to cut the limb it was hanging in.

A bow and arrow with heavy thread or fish line may work!

To whomever recovered my RC plane from the tree today, may you fingers be minced by the prop into little bloody pieces of meat!
Shame an innocent tree had to die for it, unbelievable!

Here here I had that happen to me I didn't know the guys that where there when home to get some rope got back plane and guys gone ,saw them later in the week they act like jerks no one saw nothing but the club ban them from are field hope it was worth it guys it comes back to u later

That stinks. If it was just some kids passing by and saw it that's one thing but if it was a local hobbyist /member of this forum and saw it by reading this post then that's rather low. Either way it's stealing and yes it will come back to greet them................eventually.

At our flying field we have a telescoping pole that extends a very long distance---I cannot remember the distance. It comes in very handy. We got it free from the local electric power company. They use it to trip a breaker high up a pole. Their telescoping poles must pass frequent dielectric test. When the pole does not pass a test they must discard it.
