Hi Robert,
I don't think I will get it that fast.

I am now off work until Jan 2nd. It should be a marathon run to the finish on the Cub. My order arrived from Sig for the new window material and the Cub decals. I picked up sandpaper, MEK and NASON clear coat.

This morning I need to cover the last 2 strut pieces and apply the tapes to the aileron's and the door. Once I have that complete I will start spraying the Poly Brush.
Later!!

Good thing the wife isn't home I really stunk up the place even with a fan going in the basement window. Going to have to open up some windows upstairs and air out the house.

BTW: 1 coat sprayed on the fuse and one side of the tail feathers and aileron's. Not enough room to lay the wing panels out yet.

The fuse is finished and working on spraying the wing panels.

This stuff does flash quick. Should have all the polybrush sprayed shortly.

Take care, A good friend almost burned up his garage when the furnace pilot ignited fumes from a spray can of paint he was using. He saw the flame spread from the furnace to where he was standing 20 feet away with the spray can. Fortunately he had a fire extinguisher handy and kept the fire at bay until the fire dept. came.

I can see at the fin to fuse transition you got good coats, nice. Just as a reminder, you did iron down all the pink tape edges. Right.

By the way, one of these fans displace a lot of air http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lasko-20-W...-Gray/22614934. One is all I use to keep the fumes out of the 252 sq. ft room I use, and as soon as the gun is clean I can remove the respirator. I pulled the face off and mounted it to a piece of 1/4" laminate to fit in the window frame.

Oh yes I ironed down the edges. So far I have seen a couple places I will have to hit with the iron again but very few.

I definitely need a better fan than the one I have. Will look into getting a new one before spraying the Polyspray.

2 coats appear to be doing the job. I only have one wing panel to go.

If at any point you need to iron down a few, use parchment paper laid on it with the iron on low. This is how they do it on full scale and I was told it will work on all layers but not after clear coating. I have had it work on the colors but am not willing to see if it does not work after the clear. That fan I shown is cheap and really does displace a large volume of air. I have a filter in a window on the other end of the room, so far it works great.

Anthony, How about some technicalities

Spray tip
Air pressure
Thinning ratio

Thanks, Dan

Thanks for the tip on the tapes, will try that I have some parchment paper on hand.

I went outside and checked the basement window for airflow and no air coming out. I went in and turned the fan off and pulled it down from the window and the blades had a lot of dust and overspray build up on them. A quick cleaning of the blades and I now have air flowing again.

Once I get everything aired out I will gat on to spraying the last wing panel.

Dan,
I am spraying at 35psi with a 1mm tip in the touch up gun. The poly products come pre-thinned ready for spray no thinning required. The polytone color coat does require a retarder to be mixed in before spraying.

And if the blades are plastic the static will expedite the build up. I clean my daily at least.

All the bits and pieces have now been sprayed with 2 coats of polybrush.

I will go over all the parts and make sure no tapes need to be hit with the iron. I used all but about 3 ounces of the polybrush. This will give me enough to do a little touch up if necessary.

In the morning I will spray a good coat of the silver polyspray over the entire plane then give it a sanding with 400/600 paper. If all looks good a 2nd coat will go down then the color coat.

So far I like the products, sprays well and I gave the wing panel the pucker test and was unable to suck any air thru the fabric.

Here are a couple pics.

One think I did forget to post:
I did have to open the other 1" roll of tapes on the aileron's. So I wound up needing all the rolls of tapes that I ordered. I do have leftovers of all the tapes though.

I also have the test panel sprayed with polybrush just so you know I didn't forget.

So, was this pucker test anything like mouth to mouth. LOL. That wing looks great. I don't know if you know, but, that sanding of the silver is best wet and very light handed, no power tools here.
I'm also sure that the fabric weave is still somewhat visible, but two coats of silver then three coats of yellow will fill it nicely.

Hi guys been following along with this thread,

When sanding the silver like Robert said lite handed and wet I use 600 grit and that seems to work best for me.

I was assuming wet sanding was in order,
I will spray the silver early tomorrow morning and then get onto the task of sanding. I also have the cowling primed and will need to give it another sanding and another coat of primer.
Later!

Robert,
The parchment paper did the trick. The few spots that needed attention are resolved.

The struts have the mounting hardware bolted back on and are ready for the primer coats. I will get a good nights sleep and go at it in the morning.

The 1st coat of polyspray is on the fuselage,
I though maybe it would be more opaque than it is. I also have a coat on one side of all the smaller bits as well. Once I get the fuse out of the room I can spray the wing panels.

Robert, Does the coverage look about right?

All the small bits have been lightly wet sanded with 400 grit paper,
You have to be very careful not to get too aggressive while sanding on fabric surfaces especially where an open bay meets sheeting. You can easily sand into and thru the fabric if not careful.

The surfaces sanded easily and are nice and smooth. I will have to mount the fuselage back on the stand and get the wing panels sanded and ready for the 2nd coat.
