Looking good, don't forget to iron the edges of the pinks down.

Lightning Bolts!!

I masked both lightning bolts with 3M fine line tape. Due to the size of this thing I am spraying one side at a tine. For masking paper I use Freezer paper. It has a plastic side which I put on the aircraft side and the paper side out for absorbing paint. Paint will not bleed thru this paper.

Once the mask was down I sprayed a light coat of yellow with the touch up gun to seal the mask. After that set I sprayed the black. I will keep checking the overspray on the mask as soon as it is not tacky I will pull the mask.
Later!!

I pulled the mask from the 1st lightning bolt and I had minor bleed under in a couple spots where the tapes crossed the reinforcement tapes on the fuselage. For the stripe on the other side I have sprayed a little heavier coat of the yellow to seal the tapes better.

I will wait for the black paint to fully cure out then I should be able to lightly scrape away the black paint as needed.

That looks really good............

I am sure you did this but I use a burnishing tool on the tape prior to the base color.

Just the way it goes sometimes.

Keith,
I went over the tape edges with a trim iron. This will assure they lay down. I had a few stubborn areas that had to be hit several times.

Lightning bolts now complete just need to let them fully dry for a few hours and clean up the edges before clear coating.

The lightening bolt on the left side turned out a little better, still a couple minor spots to touch up.

I will most likely wait until tomorrow to clear the plane. I only have 1 qt of clear. This is going to be pushing it for good coverage. May need to pick up another qt.

Later!!

Hi Anthony

I love your rebuild build and Paint from the pic's it looks great.
I would like to give you a hint I got from a pro custom auto painter he told me to go get a looong bristled striping brush and clip the vary point off. Apply your seal coat with it and it will not leave brush marks ( note a good brush will coast about 30.00 bucks) but you have to be vary carefull with cleaning to not change the shape of the brush

Cheers Bob T

May be next time

Sorry Bob, that won't work with Stits. Being a Keytone base as soon as it is touched with a wet brush it will wipe existing product away. Believe me I have tried it with a seriously good soft bristled artist brush. You can actually wipe most of this stuff off with a rag if wet with MEK.

The wife and I have custody of our 7yr old grandson, he asked Santa for a toy barn. Guess who gets to paint and assemble a toy barn tonight while the grandson is spending the night at my nieces? Some fat guy in a red suit is gonna get all the credit to boot.

When I said seal coat what I mint was use you color or a clear in what ever material you are using not any kind of solvent, done it several times, with water base, epoxy lacquer's and poly's it has never been a problem. but we all have to do what works for us, and I sure did not what to start a problem. I got a brush the is about 3' long and after clipping the point it's about a 1/16 wide and for me it works good.

Sorry WacoNut

Cheers Bob T

Bob no issue here.

Ho Ho Ho, the barn is finished. I used plenty of wood glue to hold up to a 7yr old.

That is cool Anthony.
Those days are behind me unfortunately.
No problems here either Bob, we all have what works for us.

Hopefully the little guy likes it,
He is into airplanes and John Deere tractors. Quite a combination.

I will get a good nights sleep and start spraying the clear coat in the morning.

Good Morning!!!
The decals have been applied to the fuse (Bear and PIPER) and the fuse and cowl have been cleared. As soon as the fumes evacuate the room I will go snap a pic or two. I can already tell I am going to run out of clear so I will make a trip this afternoon to the paint store and pick up some more.

Pics to follow.
Anthony

The pics do not show how shiny the surface is. Just not enough light in the room to reflect and too much for the flash on my camera.

Thanks Robert,
That is just one coat of clear. I would most likely come up a little short putting one good coat on everything so I decided to go ahead and shoot a 2nd coat. This stuff flashes off really fast. Once the 2nd coat is dry I will get the fuse out of the room and start spraying the other parts.
Later!!
Anthony
