Default Tiger 2 Cartwheel

Hey everyone

Well my 25 year old(where the heck did the time go?) got pranged one more time. This plane has had so many repairs done on it over the years and it just seems to be more fun to fly after each repair job. It has been midaired, losing most of the left wing. I tried splicing a foam wing into the built up wing but the foam would bend under G's(quite a sight) so I made a complete foam wing for it with oversized ailerons and two servos for Flaperons.

The nose has been reconstructed and the horizontal stab has been replace with one from my Komander (still have the wing from this one, anyone have the plans for the fuse?) Fast forward 15 years or more, the kids are grown and I got the itch again bad(3 or 4 years ago). I have been flying the Tiger using a Futaba 6EX 2.4 (great little radio for $200). This winter I upgraded to a Futaba 10CAG(built in timer, and when using the trainer function the trims from the master radio are used by the slave radio).

So, it was time for the first flight with the new radio last week. Well I did not check things out well enough, I do not use the flap function as I have read that full span flaps are a recipe for disaster. I assumed that no switch would be assigned for flap function. I taxied out and just before I was going to hit the throttle I remembered to initiate the timer, well I did not notice that this also brought the flaps down. When she lifted off it rolled to the left and would not level out(I think if I had relized what was going on I could have ruddered out of the problem but instead I chopped the throttle and waited for the inevitable to happen,

The cartwheel broke the tail off and folded over one of the torque rods for the Aileron. I have been "jigsaw puzzleing" it back together. Can't seem to get pics to load, will do later.

The front of the vertical stab was broken off with only the trailing edge still firmly attached to the rudder and tail of the fuse.

Added missing vertical fin diagonals and attached tail to fuselage, one piece of wood not recovered from crash scene so I will have to graft in a patch.

I am going to mount the aileron servos on top of the wing because I folded over one of the torque rods when it cartwheeled. I had forgot how I built the new wing after the foam to built up splice did not pan out, it looks like I cut foam cores and cut out bays. Just my luck I hit open bays under the sheeting. I am going to have to cut some servo trays from some 1/8" aircraft ply and glue it to the sheeting.

K2R is a solvent and an absorbent spray in a can. Spray it on, let it dry, brush off powder and grease/oil, etc. Buy it at ACE or TRUE VALUE hardware stores or online. Has worked great for me.

Well, the Tiger is back in the air, only had a few minutes in the air with it as I was trying out an OS 50 in it and it was barely making enough power to keep it in the air for some reason.
