B-29 Crash
OK – You may have seen this one , it is Mac Hodges B-29 crash in August, 2003. It’s one for everyone to analyze. I know there are many brilliant minds and some cynical too. What Happened??

RE: B-29 Crash
If I remember correctly, during an inverted pass, the rudder hit the ground!
It is back up and flying unless something happened in the last couple of weeks.

It may just be a american thing but surly a B29 shouldnt be doing inverted passes..Might just be me but i wouldnt go prophanging a mustang or slow rolling a B52. I would rather see a b29 doing nice gracefull and sweeping manuvers rather then somthing that the real aircraft couldnt do.. Is it just me?

Sir, you don't know Mac Hodges.
He can make that plane fly the Basic and Sportsman IMAC routines.
I don't think he can snap it, but I would not put it past him.
He is a Great person and flyer!

RE: B-29 Crash
i wasnt saying anything about the SKILL of the pilot..
I was just saying i would rather see a B29 doing a nice smooth dispay rather then the pilot showing off on how he can fly a IMAC routine with a aircraft witch would never be able to do it in real life.. Also as far as a 707 being able to roll.. well yes but it would need a extensive airframe inspection afterwards lol... Also the B29 was limited to -1 G so no it wouldnt be able to do inverted passes.
just saying i think a SCALE model like this should be flown in a SCALE manner..

August 7, 1955 Boeing test pilot "Tex" Johnston rolled Boeings prototype 707 over Lake Washington near Seattle, WA. Originally called the 367-80, it was later called a 707, Becuase its "N" number issued by the FAA was just that...N707

Yeah I agree. You know what the first thing that passed through my mind when I saw this post? I thought "why in the world would a guy be doing an inverted low pass with a B29 bomber?" lol
It's not just an american thing. We all like to do crazy things with our RC planes. Although with the money invested in that one, I think I'd avoid aerobatics.

RE: B-29 Crash
Hey Cruzmissile,
I don't know if you noticed but there is a small orange vert stab sticking up near the rear of the B-25. Did Mac Hodgers maybe build a model X-21 or whatever model to carry?
(The ?X-21? was the first plane to break the sound barrier, piloted by Chuck Yeager; called glamorous glennis if i remeber right)
What engines are powering this bab.., err, giant? And are they all real? No dummies?
Sorry, just interested

Don't ask what went wrong, it was a good day though.

its a X1 not a X21 and yes u can clearly see its there:P maybe just a glider or rocket powered.. ignition after drop would be quite cool

RE: B-29 Crash
correct... it is a Bell X-1 first to break the sound barrier. it's powered by a rocket engine to simulate the launch of the aircraft. When they do this at Fly-in's Mac is flying the B-29 and I don't know the name of the other pilot who's flying the Bell, but as the X-1 comes in for a landing it flares up at an extremely high attitude and then he fires the rocket so that the bell shoots almost straight up and it's the coolest thing to see. Last Spring at his fly-in the motor broke from the mount and the rocket engine burned the interior of the X-1. Lost all radio control and crashed in the woods and caught fire. The only thing left that was recoverd was the cockpit forward. and some other burnt remenants of the plane.
in response to rcpro-123 , the photo i submitted as links are the plane 2 months after he crashed it. so yes it's flying unless he's done something to it since the October Fly-in.
