rudder loss while hovering
Yesterday (sunday) I went to the field and this rather old guy was hovering about one foot off of the ground. People were telling him to go lower, he did that and went a liittle too close to the ground. He busted his rudder because he couldn't keep it straight. He got ount of it by dropping the nose and adding throttle, when he came down, his rudder was literally hanging by one hinge, (he only had two) and the control wasn't working. No pic, but it was cool, it looked limp and it was really funny when he tried moving the rudder

nope... couldnt have landed it... according to dave brown the second you lose you rudder when tail touching your plane shoots off into the crowd. thats why we have our beloved rule #9 in the AMA code to keep these dangerous 3Ders from killing everyone.
ok. ok. so I was a little sarcastic.
I saw a guy at our field land with no rudder and half a elevator... he said it didnt fly TOO badly

3D flying dangerous?
I think I'd rather be next to an experienced 3d pilot, than some 73 yr.old guy with bad eyesight and shaky hands flying a trainer a full throttle.
Either way its dangerous.
But its america, and we should be free to fly all types of planes and helis.

no offence, but in that case, it's a free country and we should be allowed to beat people up, then there will be less b*tches around!

I once lost an aileron on my competition funfly plane... it too was hanging by one hinge and the control arm... I was able to land it, but it didn't fly too well, with one third of the wingchord being aileron...

RE: rudder loss while hovering
I had a stab failure on my Laser3D which folded up both sides of the Stab and took off half of the rudder (robarts have great holding power). I managed to land in the runway on the main gear. Its amazing what the throttle will do for a plane with no stab. Add power and it goes up, decrease and it goes down. It also helps to have 3D flaperon mix on so your ailerons can act as elevators.
