Replacement Airplane
What would be the best airplane to get for my trashed nexstar? i have electronics and everything but i need the airplane. I saw some advertised for like $90 pre-built, should i spend the extra money and get a good one or would a pre built cheap one be just as good?

RE: Replacement Airplane
I'd say an Avistar because their so much funner after you solo. As long as you have an instructor. I'd say another nexstar is good If your tryin to go it alone.

RE: Replacement Airplane
Hey Poorkid, The Avistar is a pretty cool plane. I keep one as my 'ol stand by. However, was the Nexstar your first plane? If so, and you're still learning, a Superstar (also made by Hobbico) may be a better choice. I'm helping a friend get in to the hobby, and after flying his several times, I can say with reasonable conviction that as good as the Avistar is (remember, I love mine), the Superstar handles even more gently (just in case you're still in the beginning phase) and lands even slower than the Avistar does. Apparently, lots of people start with an Avistar, so either would probably be a good choice.

You make a good point but I think if he had the nextstar maybe he already got some flying time before he crashed it. I think the avistar would be a great plane plus if he got the superstar and then he got an avistar it'd be his 3rd plane and he would still be on a trainer. I say just go for the avistar B/C once you learn its a great plane to introduce you to aerobatics.
Just my $0.02[8D]

RE: Replacement Airplane
Lol, okay, i Had the nexstar for a couple weeks. I had like 10 flights on her and i personally think i was doing really good. I have the simulator mastered and i think it was just a fluke that she flipped belly up on my and I panicked and pulled up without enough air to finish the half loop. Personally i think i was just too nervous because my 350 dollar airplane could crash... But now that i see these other people crashign i don't feel so bad, just want to get a new plane. i do still have the .46 motor and all the electronics. (yes this was my first airplane

RE: Replacement Airplane
Anyone know how long it would take to put together the Great Planes PT-40 MKII Trainer Kit .35-.46,60"...Kit, so not arf correct? what else do I need to put into that?
I do see a ARF that i like the price of.... Lanier Explorer 40 Trainer ARF 64.3", that baby any good?
Would it be possible i am ready for a sport plane? or should i probably just stick with the trainers?

RE: Replacement Airplane
Personally, i didn't go tracking a flight instructor... I learned with my flight sim and i took it to a place by my house and started solo... Never really had someoen to teach me, don't have time to go to club and get instructions, my sim taught me.
Instead of all this trouble, anyone have a gutted out NexSTAR i can just buY???!?!

RE: Replacement Airplane
Look into the kyosho calmato.
Tower has them, I have one on the way for a second plane.
I got it for 84.00, but I used the 15.00 off 150.00 coupon.
From everything I've read it it supposed to be very easy to put together, and does some great airbatics too.
I will let you know when I get mine if you like, but I was in the same boat you are right now and thats what I did.

RE: Replacement Airplane
I agree with the other guys - Get the Avistar. You mentioned a KIT too. Those are fun and can be the best planes out there, but overall, a kit is usually more expensive than an ARF.
As far as something cheaper, look [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXE586&P=0]HERE[/link]. It's about as ugly as you can imagine, but it's probably the cheapest thing out there. Again, I'd get the Avistar. It's not much more money than any of the others and it's MUCH more fun once you solo.
Just my 2 cents...
Rick

RE: Replacement Airplane
why not try the ATS Kite that can do all the aerobatics of a acrobatic plane but you have to change the amount of throw and cof g and stuff i saw my instructor do flatspins or even a irvine tutor 40 easiest kit in the world thats around £60.00 and flys like a beautey.

Why don't you think about a Spad. Go to www.spadtothebone.com and check out something like the debonair, or if you like the look of the nexstar/avistar/superstar - you could go with the spadet LC-40. This looks like those. It is very cheap to build and SPADs are very durable.
