MY FIRST RADIO "HIT" !!
HI,
LAST SUNDAY,
I WAS TAKING A YOUNG MAN UP WHO SHOWED SOME INTEREST IN FLYING. I WAS FLYING IN A LOCAL FIELD WIDE OPEN (10-20 ACRES) AROUND 7:00 AM WITH NO-ONE AROUND THAT I COULD SEE FOR MILES.EXCEPT CARS ETC. WE WERE FLYING A HOBBICO TRAINER WITH AN EVOLUTION POWER SYSTEM 46 ENGINE. THIS SETUP CAN FLY FOR AROUND 18-20 MINS ON A TANK! WE WERE 6-8 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT WHEN THE PLANE STARTED DOING THINGS (2 LOOPS, ETC.) THAT I WAS NOT TELLING IT TO DO!!! iT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD EXPERIENCED ANY LOSS OF CONTROL, SO I DID SOME THINGS RIGHT (LOWERED THROTTLE) BUT ALL I KNEW TO DO WAS TO TRY TO KEEP FLYING (LANDING) IT!! IT SEEMED TO RESPOND TO SOME INPUTS BUT NOT AT ALL TIMES. THE LONG/SHORT OF IT IS...I MANAGED TO GET THE PLANE DOWN TO AROUND 8 FT OFF THE GROUND BEFORE IT NOSED IN. NOT BAD THOUGH BROKEN FUEL NIPPLE/NEEDLE ASSMBY AND HOLE IN UNDERSIDE OF WING COVER. AS WELL AS AILERON SERVO MOUNT BROKEN .. EASILY FIXED!!! ANYWAY, FROM WHAT I CAN TELL, THIS WAS A RADIO "HIT" -OR-WAS IT. BEFORE I FLY IT AGAIN, WHAT ELSE SHOULD I CHECK?

RE: MY FIRST RADIO "HIT" !!
I wonder what's going on with this radio interferrence. Two weeks ago we were experiencing all kinds "hits" on about 15 frequencies. Our club prez has a scanner on his xmitter and he was picking up interferrence all over the place. We lost 3 planes in one weekend including my trainer. Out of 7 years at our current location this has NEVER happened. Some of the guys who know all about radio's and such are baffled. They lost me in their tecnical talk but they are clueless on what it could be. Maybe someone out there can shed some light on the subject before more of our planes become expensive lawn darts.

Wow, "RIGHTY" Who died and made you the typing etiquette monitor?!! Thanks for your contribution, but maybe it should have gone in the "replies from smart a..es" forum. Your a great help, though keep it up. Do they call you "righty" because you are always right? I doubt it.
P.S. The word "too" as in "too bad about your crash" is mispelled in your post..try the "spellcheck" button at the bottom of the post screen next time.

Calm down I was joking. I make a joke cause your Caps were on which made it look like you were yelling. Thats no reason to go nuts on me and make fun of my nick name.
Sheesh!

RE: MY FIRST RADIO "HIT" !!
WAAAAAAAAAARRRRR EAGLE!!!!!!!
I was getting at the auto leveling feature that the Nexstar has. It tells you not to fly when the sun angle is low (i.e. morning and evening). This event happened at 7AM where the sun was on the horizon. The possibilities that arise when flying in these conditions with the said equipment enabled are loops and dives with no control. This is a big reason most Nexstar owners disable the auto leveling feature.
But if this plane didn't have that feature, then I will go with one of the reasons blwblw said.
****From www.towerhobbies.com****
Radio: Futaba 4YBF 4-channel FM radio system with trainer system and
AFS (Active Flight Stabilization) that actively searches for any
signs of instability and takes immediate action to correct them.
This system uses on-board electronic sensors that detect
instability-just release the sticks and AFS does the rest.
Sensitivity is adjustable as pilot gains flight skills.

RE: MY FIRST RADIO "HIT" !!
I can't believe our radios are invulnerable to outside interferance. There are all kinds of invisible waves bouncing around in the air we breathe and fly in. This is what makes me sigh when I committ a new scale model to the Wild Blue. I have spent thousands of hours on my Ziroili B-25J, I'm still not finished, and I will be inthralled if she goes in due to some type of unexplainable, unavoidable, invisible interferance!!! I'm going to buy a new Futaba 9Z radio and accessories to fly her with. Oh well, it's only hard earned money...right?

RE: MY FIRST RADIO "HIT" !!
did you check your receiver battery? That happend to me once, only my rx battery was dead. In retracing my steps, I figured out that my planes off/on switch had been on while charging, therefore, it never charged. Now, every plane in my fleet is equipped with a volt-watch system... I never leave home without it.

Hey acam37,
In regards to your field taking a lot of hits, Do you have power-lines around? If so, check into local BPL testing in your area. Check out www.arrl.org regarding BPL problems also. This stuff is causing havoc from coast to coast. Not saying its the problem at your site, but its what I would start investigating first. If you have a ham op in your group and find out that it is BPL, he may have a little extra push in these regards. Good Luck.
