Ultra Sport .40 - Rest In Peace
Yep, the kit-bashed Ultra Sport that has been my "knock-around" plane for a couple of years went in today....
I was doing my prototypical "high speed spinning dive of death", (yes, away from the flight line) but this time, it continued all the way to a quite impressive maneuver known as the "crater maker".
Quoting something I read here on RCU, "That thing hit the ground so hard, dust flew out of the transmitter." Oh well, at least it didn't suffer long. The image of the spinner below will give you an idea of the plane's condition... confetti.

R.I.P.
Well, there wasn't much left of it. It went straight in, rolliing. (into dirt)
We couldn't even find the tank... I think it entered a black hole and went to another dimension. The fuselage was pretty much confetti with a tail attached. The wing wasn't completely destroyed, (Those are pretty hefty wings, compared to modern models) but it was beyond repair.
A fellow flyer loaned me a big piece of plastic to make a "stretcher", used to bring all the salvagable parts back. But after removing the engine, radio, and landing gear, the rest was sent to the dumpster. Engine needs some parts, radio is ok except for stripped gears on the throttle servo and aileron servo.
The spinner parts were just a bit of evidence for the photo. I can't complain. This was a $90 kit, two years ago. It's been flown HARD for two years, modified in a few "science experiments", ( http://www.nextcraft.com/us40bash.html ) and flown HARD again. I definitely got my money's worth out of that one.
