Close call....again
Well when I first maidened my Supersportser I was on my 4th flight my plane deadsticked. Which was unsual due to the fact I was only in the air for a few minutes. Well I can in very hot and the field I was at was asphalt. When I got in the on the ground finnaly I was coming up fast on the end of the runway. I push hard left of the rudder making the plane go into some golf ball size rocks. The damage, broken wheel pants. I took them off and put up the plane and never got back to it for about 5 months due to school and other reasons. I finnaly got back out today this time on a grass field. I took off and noticed the engine sounded funny like it was leaning out and in. This gave my concern but instead of landing I kept flying. But 30 seconds after this the engine dies. "Dead stick!!!!" Im coming in hot again trying to get in on the ground just like before. I accomplised that without problems but soon as I did I was out of runway. I slammed a big thing of weeds and grass where they dump it after cutting it. It hits and flips foward landing on the canopy. (Which I have to say looked pretty cool) Well after I stopped laughing at the landing I went to collect the aircraft and determine the damage. Upon receiving the aircraft I didn't see any major structuaral damage and thought nothing broke. But while walking back I soon noticed a hinged ripped out of the elevator and had a split in a small portion.
After some expoxy she was good as new. After I took out the gas tank to see if it was the cause I opened it up and realized the clunker and rubber hose had disconnected from the metal tub. (Sorry can't think of the terms) This causing the leaning of the engine. So I got lucky twice, the elevator is fixed and so is the tank.
