Looks like the B-17 hit the other airplanes to me. Your right, they sure can't fly them. I like how his gear folded too. Classic.

In my opinion ,I think that warbird pilots need more respect. I mean we build these pretty planes, and some times we mess up. But do you realize that flying these little planes isnt the easiest thing to do. Ive seen my fair share of mess up in 3d--not that i dont, ok, every time i fly. Im not trying to start a war--this is my opinion. each has there own and this is mine. im impressed with the pretty flying 3D is but id rather a pretty plane, not that a extra isnt . lol

The 3D planes are just naturally drawn to a nice warbird, just like everyone else...

Rare Bear didnt fly because the FAA wouldnt allow them, Im not entirely sure why. I think that they didnt pass the inspection or something. Ill look up on it and post it later.

They did not get to run the qualifying race by a hour and a half late due to the bad Ole gremlins in the new engine. They got a standing ovation when they got to taxi past the grandstands and back but to late for this year. Todd....

Should have landed on top of them 3D planes instead of trying to go UNDER them.

Default b-17 crash

Hi all, I was at that bigbird event! I am standing in that picture (big bearded guy in shorts and dark shirt, top center of picture)

The B-17 was taking off, when the plane veered to the right, toward the pits! the pilot chopped the throttle got the plane straitened out. Instead of turning around and trying again, He gassed it! lost control again and the carnage in-sewed!

by the way the Orange plane was brand new! hadn't even been test flown yet!

luckily no spectators were injured! we have video of the take off, it was headed right at the camera!

regards
mark

you see.. I was the poor fool that was video taping pieces of this event from the pits. I felt like a magenet for that warbird. this was the second attempt at flight by that B-17. The first one the pilot did the same thing, but he got away with only a near miss to my backside. Like mark said above.. He started his take-off roll. gassed it.. it veared hard right. let off then gassed it again. the first time the aircraft left the ground, and flew about 10 feet behind me as I was running for the hills. The second attempt went much the same way, except he let off the gas a second time and ended up in a smoking pile with the bystanders planes. Both take off's you see on my video as the plane vears off towards me, I start running, and all you see is grass in the lens from me hauling ass. The first pass you hear the plane roar behind me. the second one you hear him let off the gas again, then you hear the explanitives from the crowd, and the sound of the crunch! By the way. the video is for sale *laugh* It does have pretty much the whole routine (except about 10 seconds of un focus) of Chip flying his Katana S Even with this mishap, that was one great show.

found pilot, its a colorado b17
as a reply to the last thread!!!!!
that was the 2nd flght of thatplane that day, the first flight was in formation with a wing mg. b25 and the entire crowd was cheering.

the plane landed with an outboard engine out on the first flight and most people didn't even know it was out. he did. and smooth landing.

he said the second flight, as it was rolling and began to lift off the engines came back to idel and startd to head towards that area. rudder wasn't combating to cross wind as such a slow speed and as he got the nose down the engines returned to full power. now it was etheir put it in or fly into those tens, peole, rvs. so he chopped the power and pushed forwards. the plane actually hit before the planes and slid into them. Or those planes would have be toast completely.
sending radio/ rx to check and an ama claim involved.
and have seen the plane and photos of others involved. it really wasn't that bad. minor to all planes........especally what could have been.

ohh that pilot CAN FLY ....jets , heli, aerobatic(3d) turbine, but says he perfers the warbirds.

Despite what the pictures look like, I was there. Two of those planes were a total loss due to damage in critical area's. One of them had never been flown. he made a poor decision. there were no issues other than poorly tuned engines that created too much adverse yaw with too little rudder. bad decision on the pilots part not to have cut the throttle as soon as he was headed off the runway. There was about 200 feet or more between the point the plane was headed in a bad direction and the point of contact with the other planes. I understand **** happens, but the pilot is making excuses for poor judgement.
