Engine Repair
I recently had a complete rudder failure on my airplane, which resulted in an unrecoverable spin. Upon impact the engine sheared and also broke one of the engine mounting holes. I was wondering if i could get a few pointers on fixing the engine.

WOOPS, do you have a "picture fetish?" The last two threads I opened, you posted the exact same thing..." first we need some pictures. Then we'll know what were offering opinions for."
While I agree that offering advice is easier when you can see what you are dealing with...
"For God's sake, get some help man, PLEASE!" You can beat this addiction!
Just giving you a hard time, Brother! Enjoy! Rich

RE: Engine Repair
Upon impact with the ground the engine stopped but the plane kept going, it didn't break the mount but got rid of all four screws.

RE: Engine Repair
You would probably be alright to just mount the engine as it is. Another option is to use one of these mounts:

Some people don't like this type of mount. I've never had a problem with it, and it might be your best option since it clamps to your engine - it doesn't use the mount holes.

RE: Engine Repair
You could use JB Weld, and mold it to fit the old hole size. It will work and you can get away without doing anything with the way the crack is it will stay with the plane.

RE: Engine Repair
my opinion is that you dont really need four screws, three is just as good.
tighten the screws better next time and you wont get this problem anymore...

3 screws is the least favorite option. I'd use either a clamp mount or just a large washer under the screw head.
BTW the clamps on the clamp mount are fairly thick metal if you decide to make your own. You may also weaken your old mount by drilling too many holes in it.
Might just make a small strap to fit around the mtg lug on the damaged side. Many options really.

RE: Engine Repair
I think that the three screw idea is fine. I have seen other engines mounted with only two screws. I personally would not do it if all I had to do was get a bolt from the hardware store. In your case I would go ahead and put the fourth screw in and use washer and tighten it down real good. I believe three screws are fine though. If this was a four stroke I would get the engine repaired.

RE: Engine Repair
I missed what engine this was but presume it's a 46LA (not that it matters). Mount the engine using the bar clamps found on many trainers. That will do it and there is no need to go messing around with anything else.
