Default edge 540 crunch

well if any of you remember a while back i bout a small 72" edge540... i had about 12 flights on it. i bought a new prop for it and aparently new wood props need to be tightened every 1-2 flights until like 10. well i didnt know that and the prop bolts came loose and couldnt take the force and sheard. The spinner was the only thing that held it on even thought the spinner was lost. well anyway i had a deadstick at a big event and hesitated to bring it in 'cus there was a man on the runway. this plane is like flying a brick with no power i didnt make it back and stall the plane in a ditch 10 degrees nose-in. i destroyed the firewall and landing gear location and will need 200 in engine repairs! heres some pics of carnage and start of rebuild

Dang Zac that sucks. You don't know me but I read that thread on FlyingCirkus on how you would crash it. I know how it feels, i'm 15 and I wish I could get a plane that was atleast a 28%. Sorry about the crash. Beautiful airplane by the way.

Where did the engine go?

Is that the hangar9 Edge?

If so - I feel that that particular plane is just cursed - buddy of mine has been through 2 - both were freak accidents - but here's the outcome of the first one.

Wasn't there some right and down thrust in the original firewall? If you do not have any in your new one you will need to shim the engine mount to get the proper thrust in there.

NP , after rebuild my modeltech extra 300 three times about to go for the fourth , I think I can spot a good rebuild. As far as wood filler I believe it can be found in a hardware store. It start off like play dough then it hardens to the point you can put a screw through it and it would hold . Hey I need some myself.

please take a look at my crash pictures if anyone wants to see!
When you rebuild LG block, you may actually keep it open from the bottom. This way you may use one piece CF LG bolted on nylon screws. Much easier to remove.

Why don't you add some throttle to rudder mixing on your radio? It's easyer that way.

That must be one big cowl! Or is just made out of sheetmetal?

Remember that the good way to save the weight is either remove the ballast from CG or behind CG. If you remove weight from the front of CG make sure you can move other items from AFT to the front of the plane. Think ahad, what will happen to the center of gravity when you reconfigure the hardware. In example it doesn't make sense to remove the cowling and than add 5oz of lead because your plane is tail heavy

When I'm building ARF, kit or scratch (like my latest project 25% PZL-109 Wilga35/80) I always check the weight of the frame, additional parts, where the CG is, and then I decide what kind of hardware I will use, where to place it on order to maintain correct CG.
My first plane that I built long time ago ended up with 5 oz of lead on the firewall and this was a lot for 40 size plane (R.I.P. [sm=drowning.gif]). I promissed myself to never do it again.
