Default So there I was.......

.....on the warbird forum posting about how great my GSP/Flair Corsair is... over 200 flights..love it to bits (literally now!!)

Having a ball with it today, screaming low passes......big wide turns....smooth slow rolls, then I decide to fly straight & level. Suddenly the model starts a moderate right roll....left aileron does nothing.....left rudder does nothing...elevator does nothing...bu$$er.....model disappears behind some trees. [:'(]

When I got to it the wreckage was spread over an area of no more then 6ft so I reckon it was a vertical impact. The engine and most of the radio equimpent survived apart from the rx battery. I wish it had so I could check it!! I'd fully charged it the night before and checked it before I flew and it was fine.

Like I said.. I love this plane and I'll probably order another one next week... wish I knew what caused it though!! I'll post the pics when I stop crying!!

Regards
Scott

I crashed yesterday too, engine died and not enough room to turn away from the fence, I guess it stalled while I was trying to turn.

Sounds like you lost power to th Rx, could be a bad switch harness.

I'm trying that right now.. looks to be ok.

The good thing is all the servos look to be ok too. The Rx has a few scrapes on it but I'll get it checked anyway. The Tx (my trust old Futaba FF7 Super) was serviced about 4 months ago and had a new battery at the time. This one has me baffled. I'm leaning towards an on-board battery failure but I cant be sure.

Ya but you never know what happens under vibration. I would not use the switch or battery again...

Nah you're right... it's in the round file already

Everything else is working ok.. I'll get the tx & rx checked but it's battery failure at the moment.

I suppose the upside is it was an ARTF. I like to build too....if it had been a Top Flite kit that I'd spent 2 years builing I'd be contemplating suicide

I'll bet the battery got disconnected from the switch or, the xtal in your rx may have fractured. Same thing happened to me at the beginning of the year. Problem was battery connector came loose. I now electrical tape all the battery connections to the switch.

Hi Andy,

The trees are down to the right of the new strip that you flew from, in the field near the cattle grid. I thought I was in among them at first... there's a pretty deep ravine in there too [:'(]

Dave... as I suspected I heard from the UK Futaba service agent today, my tx and rx are working ok. I always tie a loose knot in the battery lead to make sure it doesn't come loose from the rx. The battery was damaged beyond repair or testing unfortunately but it looks the most likely culprit at the moment.

Oh well....Woodvale next weekend, I see another large box coming home with me. My fiancee's not coming....

Scott,
I hate to see a warbird go down more than anything. More than that, I hate to see a Corsair go down. It was a beauty. Corsairs are my favorite scale birds. Sorry for the loss. Hope you have at least 200 good flights with the next one..............CDP

That-a-boy Scott!!!!!!!!!!! The only Corsair I have is a small park flyer, GWS Corsair. Flies pretty slick with a 3 cell lipoly pack.

Scott,
Remember that "VIBRATION IS THE ENEMY!" It's amazing what we put our trusty airplanes through. High "G" turns and maneuvers. It's a wonder they stay together. I periodically check all my connections, whether electrical or mechanical, to insure proper working progress. I do my best not to allow wiring to come close to moving entities, i.e., servos, push rods and control arms. I imagine if we could literally shrink ourselves down to the size of our aircraft and actually fly in them, we would be scared out of our witts! However, it would be the experience of a lifetime! Good luck on your next F4U; that one was very nice indeed.

"Keep 'Em Flying!"

There's a Flair Corsair on e-bay (UK) "never been flown" currently at £87 with 3 days left!! (ebay number 5993816225) if you fancy a trip to the south coast!
