What it turned out to be is that the ailerons on this model were pretty small for the size of the wing and at low speeds (although the model would fly) the ailerons were not effective enough for large pitch changes which would result in what looks like a tip stall. The key was to hold an extreme amount of down elevator untill the plane got up to full flying speed (actually releasing as it goes) but once it was flying good it was trimmed great.

if you try to roll out to fast with any plane, be it small or large, you will immediately loose lift. GL
