Ohio Model Products Edge 540 Tail less = Flight less
I posted this in the Profile forum but I thought it might be enjoyed here as well!!
This past weekend I had my first mishap in midair with another plane. I was letting a young guy fly my OMP Edge 540. While I was watching him fly, another plane smacked in to mine and sent it off about 45 degrees from the original path. Parts were fluttering off and my plane was slowly rolling its way down to the ground. I took the transmitter back put the engine down to idle and tried to control the plane- all I could do was either to slow down or speed up the roll rate.
The other plane involved declared a dead stick and landed just short of the runway. The funny think is that the other guy had no idea that our planes collided. When he went to get his plane he found a rudder in his landing gear and he thought that he just landed on an old crash site.
We were both flying the pattern so it was no ones fault - just one of those things.
I think that this plane is toast. You can see in the picture that the tail is gone and the fuselage is cracked. What you cant see is the broken ribs and sheeting in the wing. Oh well- that OMP YAK Arf looks pretty nice.
All in a days flying!!

The guy that I collided with is a good flier . I think that since his plane did not change course he just didn't notice that our planes hit. He saw some debris floating away from my plane but he thought that the tail just broke off since I tend to thrash the plane around the sky from time to time.
I know that he felt bad about it after he found out. All in all it was an eventful day.
