RE: Spitfire crash/video
Dr. 1, I'll try to fight the tears as I tell it....
Pilot doing a low, high-speed pass. As the Spit nears the end of the runway, the plane suddenly dives while still in its "photo-pass" bank angle. Hits the runway, bounces hard and goes up a good 30 or so ft. Glides for a bit, then tip stalls a few feet off the ground, and cartwheels.
I think I saw the outline of a Bf-109 as the plane reached its final resting spot....[X(]
What a shame; it was a very nice plane. Hope it gets rebuilt....[]

RE: Spitfire crash/video
While the RAF Board of Inquiry conducts its investigation, I suppose Major Donaldson, (the pilot who successfully bailed out of the ill fated craft) will be taking some well deserved leave. He may need something to ease his nerves a bit after that bouncy one. Perhaps some gin will make him feel better. I'm sure the boys in the maintenance shop will have his fine stead up and flying in no time. He can toast a few and remark about his latest exploits over the channel while his squadron mates burn another fine piano at the Union Jack later. Good luck to you and your mates. We want all of you to have your best crack at Jerry.

Crash Pro,
That is awesome! Chalk one up for Jerry. Think what it would be like if we could mount paint ball guns in our Warbirds. Man, that could get real interesting! I would like a R/C sim with guns and bombs with the ability of graphics like or better than G2 or G3. Are any manufacturers out there reading this? This would be a #1 seller!

RE: Spitfire crash/video
Hi,
I am very sorry about the crash as I know how much time was invested in such a nice scale job. My Tiger Moth on its second flight bite the dust from radio glitch.... I invested so much time into this bird with hand painting job.... DP

RE: Spitfire crash/video
Crashpro,
That was too funny. Including the victory role!!
I do feel sad for the Spit pilot. It always hurts to lose a plane. I have looked over the original vid several times, even did a little stop action thing. I am no expert, but it appears that the Spit is getting lower that the pilots was comfortable he added a bit of rudder. "NO THE OTHER LEFT" the wrong rudder input. That could be why there is a double bump just prior to it hitting the deck. I wasn't on the sticks, so I am guessing.
However, great vid of the 109 claiming a kill.

Dumb thumbs?,...nay...highly doubtful,...Duane is mucho excellent pilot...matter of fact, he's the 'go to' guy when it comes to maiden flights of new airplanes at the field. Heres a short video of him doing a flyby with his scratch built delta wing of his own design. http://www.cvrcclub.com/video/Duane%20low%20flyby.wmv

RE: Spitfire crash/video
Hey Crashpro,
I am only guessing from what I saw on the vid. Duane is the only one who knows what happened.
As far as 'go to guys ...'. That is why I started test flying my own planes. When I was new to RC I built a TF GE P40 Warhawk. It was my pride and joy. I had a very good friend fly it the first time and he was able to get it back, barely. It was very tail heavy with the wheels extended. I rebalanced the palne and the next week end another flyer at the club whao was the 'go to guy' offered to test fly it for me. The plane broke ground and while it was low and slow he did a steep turn to the right. SNAP & CRASH!! My first reaction to that was .... " I can do that!!" I am not faulting him because the plane may have been out of balance still, but he did admit that he shouldn't have turned so early and let the plane build up more speed. All I am saying is that we all make mistakes. I know I have had my share of 'dumb thumbs'.
BTW, I am now one of the 'go to guys' in my club, ... go figure.

RE: Spitfire crash/video
Duane is the guy in the video you hear say "What the hell was that? That was a glitch". If he says it was a glitch, I believe him.
I've seen Duane test fly a chitload of new planes at the field, flown them and brought them down safely, that probably otherwise would have been crashed if the owner took it upon himself to maiden. I'm currently putting together a Seagull Dual Ace (twin engine),and having no experience yet with twins, you can bet I'll be having Duane fly it for the first time, hopefully this Sunday.
I'll post a video of that,(hopefully not in this forum)

RE: Spitfire crash/video
Crashpro,
Lots of luck with the twin. I am a twin flyer also and there is nothing like the sound of a couple engines running in harmony! Can't wait to see the vid in the "Twin" section.
If Duane reads this, I am not 'dis'n' you. I was just speculating. Keep'em flying ...
