Default Ahhh, and it was such a nice day to fly.

It was such a beautiful day to fly. Temp in the 50's (cool but nice warm sunshine made it a very nice day) and almost no wind to speak of. Had to make a quick field repair on my twin and while I was letting the 5 minute epoxy dry I decided to go ahead and take my Dave Patrick Ultimate up for a quick flight. Went up and during the flight while doing a knife edge circle the top wing went over a little too much so I corrected. It rolled the other way and kept rolling. right into the ground.

While doing my range check I noticed a little bit of uncontrolled flutter in the ailerons before I turned the transmitter on, but by the time I fueled up and fired up I thought it was gone. So I don't know if I dumb thumbed it or I got hit while in the air. Either way I have nobody else to blame but myself because I really shouldn't have taken it up after I got the flutter before I turned the transmitter on. Oh well, it was a great plane while it lasted. 2 years of flying and I don't know how many gallons of fuel through it.

But the wife and I have already looked at the budget and I should have a replacement for it around march. cool!!!!

here are the ugly pics of what is left

G'Day RCKen,
Sorry to hear of the Ultimate end.
You're not alone as I just lost a nice CMPro FW-190 with Saito 170 R3 radial. My fault, range check was a bit down with a twitch in the ailerons at 20 paces, but the Aces said it would be OK.
Lost all control inputs on a wide downwind. Boom at full throttle.
To make it worse, this was the second time, I had also recently lost a nice Tomahawk (Airsail kit, 6 months work down the shooter) in exactly the same circumstances.
I sure am a very slow learner, turns out the transmitter was way down in output.
Oh well..........

Transmitter should always be turned on first and off last, if I am not mistaken. Sorry about your DPU.

Oh man...just looked at the pics

Yes, I know that many people do turn their transmitter on first. But I was taught and practice to turn on the receiver first. If there are any movements of the controls surfaces then it's a good indication that you have something in the area that could interfere with your flight. Unfortunately I didn't take heed of the movements when I first turned on to do my range check. Went against my own common sense just to get some flying time. Oh well, got nobody to blame but myself!!!! guess Dave Patrick will make a few more bucks off of me!!

Thanks for the explanation.
Think I might add DP to the plastic bill, too.

I can tell you this much, I loved the Ultimate. It was just a fun bird to fly. Definately my favorite plane.
