ModelTech P-47
Finally ended the life of my beloved P-47. Could never figure out exactly what happened other than the usual. Took off flew around, landed, repeat as needed. Then after flying some other planes, filled up the tank, filled up the air tank, taxied out rolled down the run way took off nice and smooth. After that for some unknow reason it barrel rolled into the ground. fueslage took most of the beating, the wind held up quite well, one small split. I beefed up the wing last time I recoved it. Engine (GMS 1.20) straight into the ground. And bent one landing gear, not only the insert but the entire shaft. So, it's time to rebuild and fly something else in the mean time.

Started gutting it all apart to rebuild it again. The onl thing that seems to be missing are my gear doors, the battery and the pilot.

Started removing all the servos and switches and noticed my switch was coming apart. So I took it all the way apart and noticed that the screws holding it together on one side had cut through the insulation of the positive wire? Don't know if that would have been enough to cause and kind of interference or shorting out. Here's a photo don't know if you can see the wire. It's the positive wire on the left side. Was also able to take apart the retracts and straighten out most of the shock body. Still need to rebuild the retract mount.

It doesn't look to me like you ended its life. I mean, I'm willing to bet it's one of them ones that's impossible to kill. Get it all fixed, and I bet you'll pass it down to your grandkids!

No, it's life is not over. I have most of it apart and just waiting to rebuild the nose. Wing and retract mount is apart. What suprised me was the retact mount that broke was on the opposite side of the wing with the bent retract. The bent side wa just fine. I did build them up a little stronger when I first built the plane.

RE: ModelTech P-47
I'm actually doing the opposite. I had gear doors on the mains and tail wheel and removed to old plastic wheel cups and made mine as close to scale as I could considering the wing was already built. There was also a full interior (top flite P47). So this time it's just the basics. All the stuffed inside made for a very tight fit and repairing anything inside meant dismantling half the plane. I will leave the bottom of the wind the same with out the gear doors and the retractable tail wheel is in also with out the gear doors. But it's almost back togther. Just need to fix the last main gear block and recover the bottom of the wing, fuel it up and see if it likes it's new parts.

Got most of the plane back together - work has been taking way to much of my time lately. Here are some new photos. Just need to repaint the invasion stripes, install the canopy and balance it again. Had to take the engine off to get to the firewall.

About completed with putting it all back together. Just have to finish painting and adding the canopy. Balanced pretty good with just moving the battery pack back and adding no weight, but there is the weight of the 1.20 in front.
Here are some new photos.
