I've heard of similar incidents from some of the old timers where I fly. From what I've gathered, leaving the antenna down while the transmitter is on may cause damage to the transmitter. Not sure how it causes damage, but that notion has kept me from forgetting to extend the antenna.

At least the damage was minor. I worry about leaving my antenna down on days when I am using both my 2.4 gHz and 72 mHz radios but so far getting my antenna up seems to be pretty much automatic for me.

Yeah, it's very pretty here.. I'm a south african who's been living in ireland for 5yrs now, only started flying 3 months ago, really enjoying it! I guess leaving the antenna down is one mistake i'm not gonna make again in a hurry!!!
As for the repairs, yup, just the landing gear & wing mounts (or whatever you're supposed to call them - it's fixed already for it's next day of abuse
I would've taken pics, but it only needed a little epoxy & strengthing - my first crash with that plane snapped the fuselage in half, so it's pretty strong around there now with strips on the inside! fly's like a dream though!
