Sig Rascal 110
Today I took of our Sig Rascal 110 for its second flight. Did a couple laps around the patern and then the plane made a hard uncomanded bank to the right. I put in left aleron and nothing happened. A few seconds later I had controll back and set up for a short final. The plane then rolled left and began to climb. I put in opposite controlls but nothing happened. THe plane then went nose down toward the ground and I pulled back. This time it climbed and I was back in controll. I started a climb and turned back toward the runway when I lost control again. This time i just tried to get the plane down out in the field. The plane started a climb stalled then dove straight into the ground at full power. On impact smoke starting coming out of the sides of the fuselage. We ran out with a fire extingusher but luckily nothing was on fire. The speed controller burned up and 2 5s1p 5,000ma batteries were all banged up (not going to use them again). The onboard video camera mounted to the landing gear did survive but everything on the memory card was erased? We are still trying to figure out what the cause of this was.

Sorry you lost such a big beautiful plane. Is it possible the speed control started to fry during the flight... are there any indications the receiver was shorting out because of the ESC?

RE: Sig Rascal 110
We've got a new Rascal 110 here still unassembled that we are interested in "electrifying". I'm looking for data points or suggestions as to what kind of motor and battery and speed controller combo I should use.
I've got a gas one flying quite nicely on a zenoah G-26 which swings an 18x8 prop at about 7000 rpm ... so it would be great to find something in that range.
Thanks,
Curt.
