Crashed Goldberg Eaglet REBUILD DONE WITH before/during/after PICTURES! :)
Hey yall... Well I just got home from flying my Carl Goldberg Eaglet, and well..... CRASHED. I was doing a few low passes and really ripping the turns quick, and my last turn is what did it... I was at full throttle did a quick turn and I believe a peice of balsa in the middle of the wing snapped and the eaglet went into a death spiral.. almost saved it but then BAM right into the ground, one of the worst noises I've ever heard.. was not TOOOO badly damaged though, here are some pictures of the damage... I already ca'd some peices back onto the front right part of the plane and ran out of ca, but this is pretty much the damage... stay tuned for rebuild process

Oh my gosh hardinvalley.. I know man haha. When I watched the Eaglet go down. I just put my head down. I thought it was gonna be COMPLETLY destroyed, and what made me even more mad was that it wasn't pilot error (well it was pilot error for being so aggressive with a "trainer" type plane) But Im about to post some more pictures and it's almost all ready just after a couple of hours of rebuilding, Now i just need to mount the engine, and put a rib in the wing and i'll be back the the feild to REmaiden..

Nice job Chevypower on the rebuild. Sorry about the wing failure. I find repairing a broken plane more interesting than building a kit, or from plans. It will be only a short time, and your plane will be back into the air. Whatever you found wrong with the wing, is this same condition in the other wing panel? It would be interesting to hear what you found that caused the wing panel to fail, and your fix to not have it happen again.

RE: Crashed Goldberg Eaglet with pictures REBUILDING!
Hey everybody thanks aerorich.. and I opened up the wing about an hour ago and alomst EVERY wing rib broke at the right side leading edge... so I CA'd all of them back and it is very sturdy.... as for the failur, I beleive I was just being WAY to aggressive with this little bird, and the wing has A LOT of dehidral in it and I think the stress just build up over time... But I reinforced it with some extra balsa and sheeting and it seems strong... Now I just have to go to the lhs in the morning and pick up some covering... then it should be ready! after mounting the engine, heres some pictures of the wing opened up and the repairs I have made. Thanks for all the responses yall in hte time of one day! and by the way.. I am actually REALLY enjoying repairing the plane Its really my first time and I enjoy seeing what I CAN DO... just another amazing part of this amazing hobby!

Hey everyone! Just got back from the maiden! I decided to do it tongiht since it was plenty light enough... FLYS GREAT! Just as it did before, I just need to adjust the CG a little bit since I mounted the engine slightly more forward then it was before, but other than that it flew great....

Great repair job Chevypower. You really did a great job in such a short time. Having the plane back in the air again really makes a person feel great. Thanks for all the photo's of the plane from start to finish. What will be your next project? Thinking about building a kit now that you have a this repair under your belt? Are you flying at a club field or your own? It really would tell club members that your not only a pilot, but a builder also. Like the colors you chose.

THANKS aerorich... yea I fly at a club but Also in the back of my neighborhood they are building a new part to the neighborhood and its amazing, there is like a strip of asphalt that looks like its built as a runway haha... so I do all my testing out there so I don't have to drive to the field to just tune and test the planes and yes I am deffianatly thinking about a kit build now... any certain kits you or ANYBODY suggests?

If you want, get a cheap low wing ARF taildragger and while you are getting the hang of that plane build a warbird kit. This is the way I had learned and my first kit was the TF P-47 .60 size. After four years, many belly landings, a tree crash, and a monokote to fiberglass refinish I still have it and fly it today. I treat it like a gem.

thats a pretty good way to go I think idelbert, any arf's you can think of that would be a good way to go? I actually want a 3D aerobatic type plane, I want a midwing so I've been looking around at kits and ARF's but I actually do want to build a kit I think that'd be really fun and challenging to do..

The new frenzy by H9 seems to be a decent plane. If you crash it then you will have the engine and radio equipment ready to go for the warbird. Something a little cheaper could be a Seagull brand model (HorizonHobby.com) or a CMP 3D model. All of which are cheap and will not hurt the pocket book too much if crashed. Try and buy the same size of engine for a kit that you already have for an ARF. This way if you do crash or get tired of the plane you are flying just put the engine in the other plane. If it survives the crash of course. As for a 3D plane try and find one that is very forgiving in the air but still allows for a lot of 3D action. A Twist or similar plane would be good because they have such a large air foil that they do not have bad tendencies of tip stalling. I was thinking about getting the .60 size. Tapered wings like the Funtanas have a little more tendency to do that, but not much more.
The TF kits are good quality. The instructions teach you a lot about the lingo and gives hints about how to do things. The instructions are sketchy in some places, but their's is better than most. I remember thinking about how to do a few things on my P-47 while building it. I pondered while looking at the plans for three days before coming up with the solution. It really was rewarding when I did figure it out....then came the next problem.
