jmulder,
Sorry to hear about your loss. The last time I saw an airplane in that many pieces was about 7 years ago. I witnessed two planes (one large, the other small) collide head on. The larger plane managed to flat spin back to the ground and was salvageable. The other plane (the smaller of the two) completely exploded. Only thing left intact was the engine. I don't know whether is was still operational however.
Take care,
Weldo

mustang crash
Weldo,
I saw your avatar of the Miss America Mustang. Was it a World Models ARF? I had a World Models Miss America Mustang. My dad had it lookin' real good, unitl one day about 3 months ago I was flying around and there was a newby on the far end of the runway that thought he was on channel 72, but it was 72 MHZ. As I was flying I started to lose control of the airplane and I told my dad that that was not me doing the frieky stuff. I was 200 feet in the air at full throttle and I went straight down and that was it. So we went up to the newby and I said can I see your radio for a minute and sure enough he was on channel 20 (the same channel I was on) so we did our part by not being to harsh on him and he only gave us 200$, but my plane was worth 450 bucks w/ all the little gadgets. It was a dissapointing loss and I wish I still had it.

Jr Jetter,
My plane is the giant scale World Models Miss America, and I have over a $1000.00 into it. That is why it was so hard watching it go in. I was also watching my wallet flash before my eyes.
Sorry to hear about the frequency glitch. There is absolutely no excuse for that. I would say that you were extremely generous as far as the newbie picking up some of the cost. I am not sure I would have been so understanding.
There is aways a risk that WE will send our own plane into the ground, but have you ever seen a sign at an airfield which states: "Beware of indiscriminate glitches by new pilots who are not paying fricken attention!"
I hope to God that sign never appears at any field.

You should always put some aspirin in your wallet. Serves two purposes, one for the pain/possible heart attack, and the other is the immense pain your wallet will feel immediately afterwards.

T-Craft Went "All To Pieces"
JMulder,
What happened here? You stated that it was a "dumb thumb" error, but you did not give any details. I have the H9 Taylorcraft that I am getting ready to test fly. Would appreciate any info that might be relevant to me in my situation.
Thanks in advance!
Sam

That was my Ace Taylorcraft. It had survived 7 yrs. of hard flying and many other chances to look like this. It served as the 95th Squadron's candy drop plane for numerous demos and fly-ins over the last 5 years and would carry 2-3 lbs of candy per drop.
The final snappping manuerver was exited straight down, wide open (Moki 1.8) about 15 ft high. Needless to say I didn't have room recover. Monokote that old gets pretty brittle and explodes upon impact. That was the total size of the crash site for the 90"-15lb model.
Hence, Dumb-thumbed into the ground, no excuses.

I feel for you man. I had a beginner to shoot down my $500 Magic (glider) at the field one day. He offered to help pay for it but for some dumb reason I said that it was ok. Now, every time I see him, I get ticked off. I think that it's too late to ask him now. I've learned my lesson.
