I saw the coolest crash ever this weekend the bad part was it was my airplane. I had just put the first three flights on it since I got it. I took of for it's fourth flight of the evening and was up a couple hundred feet just putting around. The guy I got the plane from was beside me on the flight line I asked if he would like to fly it he said sure so I handed him the Transmitter. I just was watching this huge plane doing lazy rudder turns about 300 feet up. All of the sudden there was a loud pop and to our horror we saw a huge chunk of monokote depart from the right wing of the plane. The airplane then rolled up in to knife edge with a spray of balsa trailing it through the air as the right wing snapped completely off of the fuse and started its long descent to the ground. The left wing and fuse accelerated across the sky I was saying kill it, kill it just before it hit it went silent. It took several minutes for all of the pieces of balsa and monokote to settle down. After it was all done we walked out to the crash site the plane was at least a hundred yards from the right wing.
After careful inspection we decided that the 20 year old monokote was brittle and must have been the root cause.
The pilot's head was torn from his body so we gave him a proper burial. The engine was planted almost to the firewall but is ok. And only one servo was damaged out of all the radio gear.

Does anyone have an idea of the actual life expectantcy of Monocote? My planes usually do not last long enough for that to be a factor....
