The 3W is one of the CS (Competition Series) engines. It's been in a couple of big models of mine so is running in nicely now! Doesn't seem to lack power, It'll climb out of a prop hang and keep going!
I went with foam core wings, but could save some weight by making a set of built up ones. That's next on the list.

RE: rebuilding the gp ultimate 160
wow a saito 180 that would be scary very underpowered I have seen them flown with a moki 180 and 210 two stroke and they were only good for flying no 3d and no hard up lines you would be better off buying a gas engine which for a saito 180 I think you can buy a cheaper gasser and have your self a monster to fly hope that helps thanks jessie

If I decide to go gas, it will be somthing a bit bigger like 80+" edge or extra.
I have a buddy selling a mildly used OS 160 with a pump and muff for 275. I may take him up on the offer. I like the GP ultimate, but not enough to justify a gasser in it.

RE: rebuilding the gp ultimate 160
yeah its just the power difference, kinda like a 250 two stroke bike with out run a 450 four stroke. the saito is rated at 2.8 horse and the os is 3.7,yes the os will fly it fine but you will lack power for the fun stuff and you dont have any reserve oomph for trouble like bailing out of a low flatspin, and this really is in the realm of a 50cc plane the aero works ultimate is only has a 3 inch bigger span and 200 more squares of wing surface put them side by side and you cant tell also I hate paying 17+ bucks a gallon for fuel and when you get in those big cube engines they tend to kill one really quick when I can pay 1.79 a gallon for 91 octane and the easy of tuning, so way your options out, I have ran electric, glow, and gas on this plane and gas is the best option imho, plus every guy out there has a 50cc extra edge su or yak people love the look of bipes a good looking bipe will always draw a bigger crowd than any single wing and the giles scale is a little off by nature of build they are smaller than any other single wing like the extra I had a 42% glies and my 42% aw extra 260 swamped it big time if you do run the nitro engine keep the plane as light as possible my weight should be under 15 lbs I put this plane on a serious diet and she will be an awesome performer

RE: rebuilding the gp ultimate 160
One of my friends has a GP 1.60 ultimate, he ended up putting a ZDZ 80 in it, unlimited power is definately the description for it, he flies it at maybe 1/4 to 1/3 throttle all the time, his remark about the engine selection was if he could do it over again, he would have bought a 50cc twin or a 60 cc single, the zdz lives at less than 1/2 throttle all it's life. Another drawback to having that much motor is the torque is so great that everytime he throttles up it rotates on him, along with the prop clearence issues and the gear squatting alot from all that engine. Power is good, but excessive power is wastefull.
