ST MODELS MX2 EP foam MotorMount repair
Hi,
I nose dived my ST MX2 into the dirt, and suffered minor structural damage to the fuselage.. It appears all the forces were transfered through the prop shaft, and as a result the Motor mount was shattered. The power train is mounted to balsa/ply inside the Nose Cowl, which is made from EP foam and glued in place.
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, and if so how did they go about repairing it. There are no replacement motor mounts, So I will need to make my own.
I am 3 months old to R/C flying and I have no idea how to remove the EP foam Cowl, and possibly have to split the fusealage in two, to remove the broken mount.. make a new one and then glue it all together.. What type of glue should I use? Can I use a scalpal to cut away the foam, along its joins?
Any help Info is greatly appreciated
Ham

RE: ST MODELS MX2 EP foam MotorMount repair
what up ham,
i got the mx2 as my first plane... flew with a pc trainer for a few days till i knew what i was doing, then fly the real thing for the first time, and did the same as you... hard nosedive, slightly bent nose, broken motor mount. it's not too hard pry the front of the plane off without breaking it, and then pry open the front portion of thefuselage... you should only need thescalpel to cut through the glue in some spots... but try not to cut the foam itself.i took all the pieces of the old motor mount out and laid them out on a flat surface, and using crazy glue and paper, i reassembled them. the paper soaks up the crazy glue and creates a resin-like material that's actually quite strong.
hopefully that helps...
