Dang! The wind got me.
This is my newly aquired Kyosho Giles 202 with a Magnum .91 4 stroke. This is my first aerobatic plane and I got a great deal on it from a fellow club member. I knew that this plane had been crashed and repaired before, but I figured that it would take the pucker factor out of the flying equation. I knew that if I crashed it, I could always move the engine over to the GBUltimate Kit that I am still building. Anyways, I had the plane assembled and setting on a PCV stand waiting to fly. The wind was constant and had the wind sock horizontal at most times. There seemed to be large gust every few minutes or so, but I would peek over and see the plane just setting there. Well, we got one big gust and the plane rolled over in the cradle and when the wing hit the stand, the whole contraption went tumbling over into my field box. Well, you can see the result in the pictures below. The plane had broke right where the previous owner had patched it. So I stripped the covering back, taking care to keep most of the striping intact. A friend helped me hold the fuse back together while I tacked it with thin CA. Once it was back together I cut 2 light ply pieces to fit perfectly on the inside of the fuse on both sides. I mixed up some 20min epoxy and saturated the inside of the fuse as well as the backs of the light ply pieces. I placed the new pieces over the crack and held them in place overnight with C-clamps. I also made gussets using the epoxy and went around the entire perimeter of the repaired joint. I then filled the damaged portion of the outside of the fuse with wood filler and let it dry overnight. After some sanding the next day my friend covered the repair with some white Monokote. The canopy was repaird with some thick CA and covered with a piece of Vinyl to hide the scar. After the repair was complete, I measured from tail to wing on both sides and found that I had only a 2mm difference.

I agree, it looks like the previous owner repaired it with some balsa planks, not ply. It definitely would have been a total loss if it had come apart during a low level high G maneuver.

You guys are hilarious.
Although, my wife did not approve of the pilot. As you can see, my plane had a breast reduction after the crash!

Oh, I hate those words, "breast reduction"!!!!!! I figured you had that pilot to "strictly promote womens rights. " I guess that's like getting a Playboy mag for the "articles & jokes". All joking aside, it looks like your going to have a good looking plane. Good Luck !!
